Portal 2
Dual monitor split screen?
Is it possible? It'd be nice if I could play on my PC with keyboard/mouse and my girlfriend could play on the couch with the controller.

yea that would be cool !!!!!!!
HL2 does support dual screens, so I beleive Portal should too.
The way I did it was to setup Eyefinity (only on AMD video cards) and change my desktop resolution to 3840x1080. This let me set Portal 2's resolution to 3840x1080 and when I did splitscreen co-op each player had their own monitor to play on. This seemed to be the way to unlock that resolution.

Here's the catch: The game still only gives you a playable screen half the width of each monitor to look at. So what you get is a picture that's 960x1080 centered on each screen with black bars on the sides. I was really hoping that it would be like playing co-op online where each person gets the full monitor to look at, but it isn't. There might be someway to change that but I haven't looked into it. I think it would've been just as easy to just mirror both monitors and play it that way since at least then you can see what the other person is doing.

Basically I had the same problem and while googling I came over your post which helped, so I thought I'd help you and anyone googling back. The black bars are there because it thinks the aspect ratio is for example 8 by 9 for both players (for a total of 16:9, which is only one screen), while it should be 16:9 for a total of 32:9.

This is how you fix the black bars in split screen:
Only tested on W7, with Eyefinity and with same aspect ratio on screens. Check guide in post above if you want perfect ratio on two screens with different aspect ratio
  • Start Eyefinity and put the screens short sides together.
  • Go to your Portal 2 local folder (open Steam, Library, right click Portal 2, Properties, Local Files, Browse Local files)
  • Now open "splitscreen_config" in Notepad or some other editor.
  • Look for "widescreen_vertical_split" (use CTRL + F or eyes). Under that (ignore the // row) it says "aspect" and two numbers. X by Y. This is your aspect ratio per player. You basically double the X value. Example: if you have two 1920x1080 screens, it should say "16 by 9" instead of "8 by 9".
  • Done. Now start Portal 2, choose vertical split screen in options and wreck havoc on those tests. For science!

Is there a new link, that one's broken. I'm trying to setup two screen with an internal gpu Ryzen laptop, this video explains some of it but i cant get my desktop to recognize more than 1920x1080 despite extending the desktop

not sure what I'm missing.

do you have a solution?
No. I think it's because the laptop can't go more than 1080p.
Extending the display won't work. You'll need to use the Eyefinity settings in the Radeon software for AMD. This combines the two displays. I can't swear it will work for you.
Being able to set the aspect ratio will be good as my monitors are different resolutions so I can tweak it down so the one half doesn't bleed onto the other monitor.
