portal 2 not working

when i got it it didnt work, but then one day for some reason it worked. and now it doesnt work again, ive tried verify integrity of game cache, but most of the time it says 1 files failed and will be reacquired, but sometimes it says complete, so when it says the file was complete i went on the game and it still crashed just after the loading screen please help me

when I first got portal 2 about a year ago, the game did work. then an update came along and it started dying on me if the network cable was plugged in during startup. then when that didn't work I had to reinstall and not update. then, when I was blocked from preventing the update even after reinstalling, the game was dead completely. i can't even get a splash screen. i've followed the support article instructions and got absolutely nothing new. i have the exact same file validation problem where it will not verify as completed. every time it says it needs to be reaquired. my system IS sse and I EXCEED all requirements. to be blunt, I think the problem is that the maker has provided a bad update as that was when the issues started. this is a great game when it works, but I have been unable to play the software I purchased for a ridiculously long time. this appears to be a frequent issue with a lot of customers from what I've been seeing. and instead of endless platitudes about reading support articles that do not work and gushing about multiple screens, how about fixing the problem in the product?

uninstall steam then reinstall it then sign in and reintall portals this happened to me and thats what I did and it's working fine now. It just will cost you some time in uninstalling then reinstalling everything but at least you'll be able to play your games again
