Portal 1 free?
When i had portal 2 i thought hey what work did valve do in portal 1 so i tried the demo and it gave me the full game!

just saying it gave me first slice and demo so i thought steam might think im hacking so i uninstalled it probally because i have portal 2 it gave me portal 1

You dont have the full game. It doesnt say you have it on your games list.

It's just a demo. Eventually it will cut you off.

That is a common mistake when your looking at the steamapps folder. You got the full engine, but you can only play the demo.

portal 1 was free for a while with a dedicated nvidia or ati card

but it appears to have expired

Valve did offer Portal 1 for free on steam at least once. That's how I got my copy on May 2010.

i wasnt looking in my steam apps i was looking for whats downloading

turns out it was a steam bug i tried reinstaling now it just gave me first slice the first time i could change the downloading and it would download portal

Well, that applies also. You were just downloading the Portal engine and not the full Portal game.

portal uses the hl2 (source) engine
/nitpick

it also uses some textures and models from hl2 and other source games
