Strange Portal 2 startup

When I start up Portal 2 through my steam library, my screen flashes black for a very very short period of time. Portal 2 remains in my processes list for a few seconds then dissapears. I do not wish to contact valve support again because it takes around 2 weeks for a 4 word responce. Anyone able to help me out here?

Go into your Steam\SteamApps\common\portal 2 folder and delete the bin folder, then go into the portal2 folder and delete the bin folder in that too. Right click Portal 2 in your steam and goto properties then validate the game cache, after it finishes re-downloading those files try and play. Report back if it solve/doesnt solve the issue.

I'm having this issue as well, and have had it for months with no successful fix (including the one above, which i've tried previously). It baffles me primarily because I have successfully played through the game in it's entirety already on the same machine that it no longer works on.

I did not have the priveledge. I have played through it on a different machine but with the same account

This will ensure your directx is up to date, also download the latest video drivers for your pc (do you know if you have ati, nvidia or intel?)

I was able to find a fix eventually. I had to update the bios to my motherboard specifically, not just everything else. This is far more difficult than it should be, but google is your friend.

Wow that's bizzare, can't see how the BIOS would cause it. Glad you got it nailed down though =)
