Frequent graphics card glitches while playing

This has been going on since I started the game. At random intervals of about 2-10 minutes (I never counted), Portal2 will freeze and the sound will loop*loop*loop*loop. I cntrl-alt-del into Task Manager, open the game again from there and it will continue fine from the point at which it glitched, until it happens again. The reason I think this is a GPU problem is that once (once, mind you, out of like 50 times) I got a popup telling me my graphics card had crashed... I went and installed the newest driver from the nVidia website and it didn't fix the problem - all it did was temporarily mess up Minecraft.

I've got an nVidia GeForce GT 650M 2GB gfx card and an Intel i7 2.4 ghz CPU, if that helps.

Has anyone else experienced this problem / know how to fix it?

well your computer definetly meets minimum requirements.... have ou messed with the settings in the NVIDIA Contol Panel?

It's an HP ENVY dv6 model. The funny thing is that everything else including TF2 runs perfectly.

Yep, the same .. TF2, UT2004 & Sonic Generation working fine so far ..
Asus N56VZ here

Asus driver 306.68 => sonic 4 ep 2 & portal 2 not starting
NVidia 314.07 (just before the latest) => sonic starting, portal 2 freezing
NVidia 314.22 => instead of having portal 2 freezing, I'm getting BSOD with DPC Watchdog Violation error ..

Weird, hope it's not a hardware problem ..

What is your advanced setting Image detail, just after Multicore rendering ?
It seem's that the game if freezing when set to Low or Medium, not when on High or Very high o_o

It's been doing it less, perhaps because of windows updates, and perhaps because I don't play Portal that often :p

I can't gather anything from it, other than that it's a problem with the game and not my hardware. I could report the problem to Valve, see if they'll fix it, but I'm not that desperate.
