Can't Start a game

Every time I try to start a game it goes through the loading screen and then exits to the desktop . What's going on?

Me three. Using Elementary OS, AMD 14.2 beta drivers and the 3.13.5 kernel.

Same here on Fedora, it appears the start script portal2.sh is bugged

I had to explicitly opt-in to the beta on the "betas" tab for this game. After doing this it started downloading again for 45MB or so and now I'm able to start the game!

Yes, the same here, notice that on Fedora selinux will block the execution because it tries to create an executable heap memory. As a temporary solution you can run "setsebool -P selinuxuser_execheap 1" to allow exec heap, but Valve should really fix that as it isn't exactly safe...

Same, fresh install of windows 8, latest drivers, and the game keeps crashing. Verified integrity of game files and still happens.

will try the beta thing and see what happens

I've got the same issue. Somethimes the game just crashes without any mesage. I've got Windows 8.

Had the same problem, if you have raptr installed is that, i uninstalled and all works perfectly.

Thanks that worked, but it's odd, the link that came up when the error happened was different and didn't offer that solution.
