Portal 1 ending

When i was flying around the ending map .You know that with the parking lot. I thought about how it is possible that no one heard GLaDOS explosion.
The second thing is:why Aperture Science is that stupid? When you go to the ending map you can see a small door (at the right of entrance) and street lamp standing in front of it,so you can't go through it.

First, Aperture Science is resided inside an abandoned salt mine. Which means, apart from AS stuff that are all dead by the moment, there's just nobody around to hear the explosion. Second, I don't understand what exactly do you find stupid and why.

I said that gate placement is stupid,because street lamp is blocking it so you can't go through there.

To clarify, Aperture Laboratories is both above and below grounds. In the HL2 timeline, Aperture has an equipment factory in Cleveland, Ohio... and the main facility for testing their imported and exported products and goods in Michigan.
