The time you need to invest depends further on how fast you're learning your lesson and with whome you're playing.
I really can recommend it, but as long as I don't know how much time you roughly want to invest, it's hard to say. (I've played CoH as well, but liked Wargame way more, but that's just my personal choice)
Jumping into MP shouldnt be to hard. Watch one or two replays built a balanced army and join a low level game. Dont be afraid to host one for new players only.
You might loose a few times at the start but its not that hard to learn just different.
Terrain matters a lot more than just building and spamming units like in most RTS
If you're the kind of player who likes 'Build 30 tanks, move through the map killing everything,' and the only defense is to have 35 tanks instead, then you probably won't like this game. However, if you're into a more complex game where you need to keep in mind your reconaissance, logistics, and everything else, then you should love it.
Monty. I agree some are hard. but you got to explore all your options. I kid you not, all my SP games last 2-5 hours XD
also i lose less units after brushing up of some basic real life tactics used by armored companys
The first campaign is pretty easy except for the airbase where all my tanks got shot to h... by missiles and those ♥♥♥♥♥ guys hiding under every rock
Also, It's a bit technical to go through all the details about the military hardware. If you like brushing up on those, it's fun and you learn something. I'm not a good multitasker but I find this game easier then C&C Generals where you have to think about a million things, at once. In that respet it allows you to choose more and develop your own style of playing rather then being the one who clicks the fastests and gets the most income that way.
In terms of playing level.. I think it does have a steep learning curve but that the challenge brings it's own reward when you finish that mission you thought you couldn't in a million years. Then you field the T-72 and it saves the day as it blocks the way for a lone t-80 to save those Polish hardliners! Contrary to my other posts, THAT tank shot up everything!! Still, you have to puzzle a bit and work out what works, but at least THIS game it actually works for a crummy multitasker like me. :)
in terms of play it's simple, but so is chess.. right?
i had an M60 take out a T80 once.... took me 5 minutes to pick up my jaw
Pros (imo): Good Graphics, Based on the cold war, Realism, and Tank Warfare!
Cons (Again imo): Terribly confusing main menu, Cannot create buildings, getting sniped by tanks that I can see (I just rage about it), refeuling..., Slow paced at the start, and too large scaled.
TO be honest, I'm getting my ass handed to me from time to time, but each time I do, it's a learning opportunity. Every failed attack is a chance to figure out how to better manage my units, buying units, and using them in tandem with others.
So much is about tactics and logistics, like the other commenters have mentioned above, and that is something I enjoy.
I haven't figured this game out, yet, but when I do, I think I'll fall in love with it.
