Turn-based strategies are my bread and butter, especially any kinds of chess with lasers, explosions, and machine guns. After being a bit disappointed with Halfway, the developer's previous game, it took me 5 years and a few sales before I tried Pathway, but still had it on my wishlist since release. Now that I have played through a bit, I'm happy I finally tried it.

I don't like plot in games, and that was a big turn-off in Halfway. The "plot" of Pathway exists as a narrative framework, but is entirely player-driven. In my early plays, I skipped a lot of "plot" because the game let me and because it was a tactically sound decision while I still kind of sucked at the game. It lets you choose a lot of optional combat, mostly skip or breeze through "cutscenes" and otherwise spend most of your time just playing and making the tactical grid-based decisions that are the heart of this genre. 90%+ of the game should be analyzing the situation making those decisions in these games and Pathway comes pretty close to that number. I've been so happy with it that I might give Halfway another go and look forward to the company's next release.

Pathway is a hidden gem among games on Steam. It surely deserves more popularity than it really has.

It is a tactical, turn based shooter game with RPG elements that mix with roguelike game style. In the game players form a party of adventurers and explore various settings by moving from location to location. This board game-like element of play then takes players to locations where they face encounters such as fighting villains, making purchases in local vendor stalls etc.

This game is a really pleasing experience which seems to be a love letter to the old Indiana Jones Desktop Adventures as it evokes similar tropes, retro style graphics and game style. I highly recommend this as a filler game for your daily adventures in between job tasks. The game doesn't take long to complete a particular adventure encounter, but will leave you satisfied and can serve as an exciting break to an otherwise plain day.
