It's good, I really enjoyed it. It's just a walking sim, maybe the first of it's kind, but still just a walking sim. Feels like walking through the decay of someone else's memory or a sort of vague dream. Visually it's great and I loved the music. There's not much in terms of story, so you really have to draw your own conclusions. There is a story, but it's like the details intentionally don't matter. Despite that though there's a lot of narration that helps explain the "story" but nothing is ever really answered, which isn't necessarily a bad thing in my opinion. I personally liked the whole vagueness and the poetic and depressing atmosphere and nature of the whole game, and really appreciate that the game doesn't try to actively make you feel a certain way or force anything.

The developer commentary can really ruin your perspective of the game though, so I recommend skipping it, or just speeding through if you just want the achievement. I did enjoy hearing about some of the decisions behind the music, but everything else was just too pretentious and made everything about the game feel meaningless and arbitrary.

I don't really like how the game advertises it's "randomness" to imply a sort of replayability. The game is only worth playing through once, maybe twice if you really want to explore and experience things again with a new perspective or see if you missed anything. The only thing random are random things around the island may or may not be there, and the narration might be different here or there. But those things are entirely pointless as there's hardly a story, there's no real conclusion there's no questions explicitly answered. Nothing really changes your perspective on thing except maybe if you find the ultrasound pictures which I only found because of the developer commentary, where they confirmed that this bit of information that can really change your perspective on things was intentionally one of the things that was randomized so that not every player will even see it. This type of randomness doesn't add anything to the game and really takes away from the experience, which is the last thing you want in a game like this where there's nothing but the story and music and visuals. It's not that the randomness itself is bad though. I wouldn't mind going through the game multiple times to get the entire story, no matter how vague it is, and even if that story has no proper conclusion. The problem is that it's the only things random that actually make any difference (other than the above spoiler), and nothing significant really changes between playthroughs. You go through the same environments, follow the same paths, move at the same speed, see the same structures, the same writing, the same music, etc. If there are any differences I never noticed any because I was either unlucky or the differences were so small and meaningless or blended in with everything else.

But I still really enjoyed my first playthrough and appreciate that the game didn't force me to go through it more than twice for all the achievements. I do at least recommend getting if it's on sale. I wouldn't have paid full price because of the issues mentioned above, but if those things don't bother you then it's worth even it's full price.

This was the first game I ever played on steam and I would absolutely recommend it to every new gamer! I loved how calm, yet eerie the atmosphere was. I was able to explore everything (everything was beautiful) and it was like an interactive story - something between an open world game and a choices matter virtual novel. It's been a couple of years since I finished, but I am planning on replaying it soon as it was very calming in a stressful time. Here's to hoping I get those last three accomplishments!
