I would also like to know if buying the DLC's is worth it.
The DLC's for mafia 2 suck.
They only include some outfits and vehicles and arcade missions.
I can't recommend mafia 2 because it lacks content and the gameplay isn't that fun or interesting.
The only things you can do is continue the main story or drive around and kill people.
There are no side jobs/quests/missions, collectibles, or any other activities like in other open world games.
The soundtrack is good though.
And since you said you don't want to play antiquated games I can't recommend mafia 1 to you either.
I would just wait for mafia 3.
It's another developer and it is taking place during the 70s in the southern states like louisiana.
So it doesn't have much common with the previous games and you won't miss out anything storywise.
Thanks for the help, i'm gonna wait to see more opinions since there's still 2 days left of sale.
Extra note: Sorry for hijacking your post, OP.
I remember the opening to this game becuase it starts of in WW2 but when you finally arrive in the city it's christmas and the city is covered in snow and a christmas song from the period starts playing.
To answer the other question about DLC one is good and the others are a bit dissapointing, joe's adventure opens up a new part of the map with new story elements but the jimmy DLC is basic mini game things where you try and get a high score. I remember being dissapointed with that one. The cars and clothes aren't necessary but if you want to drive around in a WW2 jeep it's the only way to do it.
It's a very authentic game and the setting and characters seperate it from most modern open world games but there isn't much to do beyond the main story and the city can feel lifeless at times. I highly recommend it though!
Oh, well, I've bought like 30 games this year and only four made the cut to be played for more than a few minutes:
GTAV
DYING LIGHT
FO3
FO NV
I knew all the FO world, but I had the same problem... too busy to play games period when they were launched.
FO games may be obsolete in some technical aspects, but game-play and deepness compensate it imo...
That is what I expect from MAFIA 2. :-)
There are definitely collectibles in Mafia II:
* Playboy Magazines (50)
* Wanted Posters (159)
* Artwork (8 Paintings, 10 Posters, and 14 Pinups)
Joe's Adventures (DLC) also has Playboy Magazines (19).

I will say, if you play the intro of the game (the liberation in Sicily and the talk with Joe in the car, driving in the snow) and don't like it, then you won't like the game. So you could buy it and play that much of it and decide for yourself if you want to invest further into it, or not. If not, then get a refund.
Mafia 3 just got announced today, that's why there's a sale...
I say get it.Its a great game.
