Is there any way to decrease map load times ? (Seriously its insane)
It takes me 5 minutes to join a server minimum. I could install 5 gb games faster than this. I could download Dota 2 in less time from Steam. It is insane how long it takes. The worst part is a lot of times I'll join a server and people just left because the round is over so now I have to go through another load or the server is bad quality and I have to switch so it takes a minimum of 10 minutes just to get into a server. Anything I can do to speed this up ? My fps and everything is fine for the most part in game just loading takes FOREVER.

Disabling consistency seems to do the trick at reducing load times.

Steps
1) Open Run program for Windows (in Start Menu) and type: %appdata%
Or go to this directory: C:\Users\YourComputerName\AppData\Roaming

2) Open the "Natural Selection 2" folder, right click "ConsistencyConfig" and click "Open With"

3) Click "Browse" and find "Notepad", click "OK"

4) Select all of the code in the "ConsistencyConfig" file, and replace it with this:

{
"restrict": [],
"check": [],
"ignore": []
}

5) Save the file and exit, now play NS2 and try joining a server / your own private game. It should reduce load times a ton.

im down to 2ish minutes not too bad.

Get an SSD. My load times are between a minute and 20 seconds.

Whats your RAM? If you have less than 8k then the loading times are x5 longer at least.

I willl check it when I get home thanks for the tips.

As for ram and SSD's, the computer I'm currently using is older because Im in the process of fixing mine but even still its not that old still has 3 gbs of ram. And the hard drive speed isn't terrible. I've never played a game with such long load times.

These loading times are definitely a pain.

It seriously deters me from launching up the game and playing. If I have anything less than 2 hours to devote to just playing it I don't.

I have 8GB and it still is extremely slow. Most of it's spent on Precaching sitting at 0% and not even accessing the hard drive, so I don't even have faith that an SSD would help.

Load times have always been pretty harsh in Source games, but NS2 is the worst in terms of loading speed.

I can agree with OP on load times. really realllly long...... Probably longest loading game out of every other one in my game list. :OhNoBlue:

Everytime you see this topic, its as hard to believe in as God, sitting on an 7 year old hdd and i5 750 and still, not once since I bought the game 1year ago when performance was far worse have pre-chaching taken more than 15 sec, even with latest increased consis check it takes no more than 30sec, I dont use that above trick.

I have 4 year old pc (quadcore, 4gb ram, 512mb video), which I upgraded with SSD recently (motherboard can use only 66% of the SSD speed though) - my load time is ~ 20-30 sec every time so far, usually precaching takes longer till some 20%, then 100% in an instant.
Airwolf_swe Dec 23, 2013 @ 8:24am
well the loadtime was great in both patch 261 and 260. its just the recent patch 262 that increased the load time. Go contact the NS2 dev team and hope they fix it again.

Yeah an SSD would certainly help but I really don't have the extra cash or desire to shell out for it for one game.
Pajander Dec 23, 2013 @ 11:46am
For one game? Getting an SSD is the best upgrade anyone can make. It makes a huge difference overall.

22 seconds for me, from Windows to the ready room of an official server. Though that wasn't after a fresh boot, probably already had stuff in RAM.
