Why is my relation with my vassals detiorating?
Do they lose relation if I don't have them controlling somewhere?

Yeah. They get jealous if your vassels aren't kept roughly equal in awards. I never grant castles or towns to vassals cause it breeds too much jealous, just assign them 1 fief per lord in order of renown until all the lords are equal and then keep the rest for yourself to dole out as more lords defect to your side.

i preffer to have 6 vassals in total then give them fiefs evenly, i never talk to lords hanging out in my castle because i would have to accept them and have them go deep into negatives or send them to one of my rivals. when a vassal has a single fief they tend to only have around 50 troops at any time but if you give a vassal a large amount of fiefs they have normal 150+ armies
also easier to make sure they are all positive if you dont have a ♥♥♥♥ ton of vassals
Every time you award a Fief to a lord, that vassal gains 10 rep, and all others lose 2 points.

If you have ten lords and give them each one fief, they will all be -8 net gain (+10 for awarding, -18 for other awards)

However, if you have five lords and give two fiefs each, that's +20 for awarding -16 penalty for a +4 gain. You count as a lord when you award to yourself as well.

So, generally speaking. Six is the magic number. One award, +10. Five unawarded -10. Beyond this, plan on doing a lot of hobnobbing to keep people happy.

It also helps if they are geographically coherent when dealing with their fiefs. If you're going for world domination, Try not to award more than 2-4 fiefs per lord and plan on doing a lot of butt-kissing to keep people happy.

The reason for this is that the Lords should naturally respond to bandit raids within your territory, but their ability to do this is null if you give them too much ground to cover and they can't reach it. That's something the AI handles VERY poorly, resulting in the entire kingom going into an economic death spiral because all the villages are pillaged and never get to recover.

pretty much, as long as i had a positive relation with them to begin with it ends perfectly fine
Is there a way to reorganize who owns where? Also, sometimes I can only choose to give a castle when I COULD give someone a small village.
I think there's an option for that. You may have to consult your personal Empire Manager.
I couldn't find it.
i think you have to go into notes-factions-your faction-lord"whoever" and look at which lands he owns
Right but how would I give him something else, and then give someone else his first land?
or after you capture a castle it will list all of your lords and how many lands of which types they have

that i have no idea of
the only way i know of taking lands from a vassal is to accuse him of treason and send him off
I hope you aren't taking in too many vassals under your wing.

When you found your own kingdom and get a few vassals, it's a good idea to make sure that each of them has land to call their own. As time passes and your kingdom grows into an empire, you'll have more land to share with your loyal commanders. However, due to the nature of the lords in the world, they are nearly impossible to please. If you have 3 vassals and give one of them a village, one of them will get a 10+ relation, while the other two get between 2-3- relation. While with three lords, it's easy to get them to a trustworthy level of relation after awhile, if you choose to expand your board of commanders, you'll find it much harder to please everyone.

It is very important that you keep them in the positive, because if they dislike you too much, they may ditch you, and take any castles and towns with em at well. That's why you should only give towns and castles to lords with a VERY high relation, not thoses with only a few plus points in relation. Until then, just give them villages. They can't take villages with them if they ever defect.
im using only 6 vassals for this reason as said earlier in the thread its pretty much the golden number, if i give each a single fief and keep rotating who i give fiefs to the relation stays the same and no one gets pissed at me for not giving them ♥♥♥♥
