Retail expansions don't work with Sims 3 Steam?

Today I bought two expansions to Sims 3 (Late Night and High-End Loft) from JB Hi-Fi and tried to install them. No luck, I get this message:

"This product requires an installed copy of The Sims 3. Please install The Sims 3 before installing this product."

This is one heck of a bummer. Any way to fix or get around this? Do I need to move my Sims 3 files around to install the content and then shift it back to my Steam dir or what?

Help please :3

They do not work together, but you can register them on Origin. As been stated in hundreds of threads asking the same thing...

It's been answered a ton. The sims is NOT a steamworks game, it does not activate on steam.
