I already have Sims 3 on Disc so...?

I already have it on disc but I want to download it from Steam. Do I have to purchase it from Steam to download it or can I download it for free and use my key I have in my box?

You can't redeem the retail game on Steam, you'll have to buy the game through Steam to be able to play it through Steam.

However you could attach it as a non-Steam game, you'll be able to see times played on that game and that's about it. Your friends will be able to see you play that game but it'll also be labelled as a "Non-Steam game" for them to see.

To add a non-Steam game, click on the "+ Add a game..." at the bottom left corner of your Steam client, and then click "Add a Non-Steam Game..." from the list.
