Won't Start, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

Okay so I go through all the strat things like getting your key and selecting what you want to open, then I wait a moment. Then a box pops up telling me "Unable to start. Please reinstall the base game". I've reinstalled it many times but it wont work. If you guys know how to fix this please help me.

Possible corruption?

Two things to try: ensure your registry is clean of game keys you're not using (esp. important if you've had Sims 3 previously installed then uninstalled it).

Second: factory reset. Go into your computer's Documents directory, then into the Electronic Arts folder. Inside there, rename the "The Sims 3" folder to somethinge else (like, "Old Sims 3"), and see if the game will start.

I probly should have mentioned I'm using steam to get it and that I'm running Windows 8.1, sorry
