Custom Music
Does anyone know how to install custom music in Sims 3 on the Steam Verison?

Custom music is problematic, even in the Steam version. I'm searching back through admittedly faulty memory for a discussion on this topic on a different forum, but I think the upshot was that the .mp3 files needed to be 128kbps because the game had issues with higher sample rates and that rotation issues occurred if they were more than about 4 minutes long. Assuming those two qualifications were met, you drop them into your \documents\electronic arts\the sims 3\custom music folder and then select the custom station from any radio or stereo.
omg so buggy...

There is another way that is much easier now and less likely to stumble over things like sample rates or produce silent music output. The utility is relatively recent on the scene, but the file format for the music files to begin with still does have to be mp3. Many other music file formats are easily convertible to that with some simple tools, others can be a bit more complicated.

This method gives you as many custom music stations as you like, and you can name them whatever you want (within reason). Mine are currently called CustomA, CustomB, and CustomC but this is still a work in progress for me and probably will be for a very long time.

It all works out of the TS3 user game folder in Documents so the install platform (Steam vs. Origin or disc) doesn't matter.
