Game not launching under Windows 8
I've read a bunch of different recommendations for getting this game to work under Windows 8, but my problem isn't the same (-1) unhandled exception error that everyone else seems to get. But to be clear, I have followed the recommendation of downloading the new GFWL client and signing in before launching the game.

My problem is that when launching SSF4AE, nothing happens. The cursor shows a spinning blue circle for a couple of seconds, then goes away. I have to kill the game .exe from the task manager. The game used to run vcredist.exe every time I opened it, but that was resolved by deleting the files in the redist folder of the install directory. I've tried compatibility mode, running as administrator but nothing makes any difference. Does anyone have any ideas?

I think I've made some progress here, maybe. Now instead of doing nothing, and forcing me to end the process from the task manager, now SSF4 gives me a Fatal Error: An unhandled error occured. (-1)

What seems to have resolved everyone else's error (reinstalling GFWL client) isn't working for me and I can't help but think I'm doing something wrong. Anyone help? Please? I'd hate to have to get this refunded. If we can get this working, you'll get another noob online whose face you can punch in repeatedly!

I had the same problem starting on windows 8, turns out to be an easy fix thats worked for all "games for windows' games..

basic steps:
1. go to settings > control panel > uninstall programs
2. uninstall the "microsoft games for windows" software
(there might be 2 different versions on there)
(both labeled "microsoft games for windows live/marketplace.."
3. go to "http://www.xbox.com/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient" and download the latest
"Games for Windows Marketplace Client Launcher"
4. right click on the saved file and "run as administrator"
it will then start redownloading the 50 or so megabites properly
5. start your game, then log in, done :)

edit: updated link

this error exists under Win7 too. And yes, that's the correct solution!

Thank you so damn much. This is the only solution that worked for me

I have the same problem mentioned by Medlock87, nothing happens when launching the game, but the process appears in the task manager.

Updating video drivers, the latest GFWL client, reinstalling the game, etc. didn't help. Using Windows 8 x64 and a Radeon HD 7850

Medlock87, did you get to solve it? Anyone with the same problem? Thanks!

did u try uninstalling 'windows for games' like in the steps cause thats major problem,

installing over the old 'GFWL' version wont work cause it leaves part of the old version together with the new version that makes it incompatible but removing your current version before u reinstall the lastest GFWL client should fix the issue.

just follow those steps above exactly and it should work

i am using 'Windows 8 x64 and 2 Radeon HD 7970 in crossfire' so there pretty similar specs to your system

if it still doesnt work i dont what else is the problem.

Thanks, unfortunately that's what I did and doesn't work. I'm afraid I'll have to wait till a GFWL-free version comes out, hope it's earlier than July 2014...

The link no longer works, but a Google search of "xbox live pc client" provided the PC installer for XBox Live.

Capcom, not removed GFWL for this game yet? You are a bunch of SOBs.

I've downloaded the Live Program and now it won't connect. What do I do now?

Same problem, downloaded GFWL and it won't connect so can't install the game. I'm never buying another game with crappy DRM again. I may as well go back to pirating. I seemed to have had an easier time installing and playing the games then.

Dude 5-10% of PC games are on GFWL
GFWL is literally the IE of PC gaming platforms. what did you expect? we get steamworks in august

I expected to be able to at least install the game and play single player. I didn't buy the game for multiplayer.
