Grifter achievement - impossible?
I've been trying to get all achievements and managed to do all but one - Grifter, which requires me to get several Huge Successes on wheel gambits. However, I've tried every single wheel gambit encounter and couldn't find a Huge Success for any of them. It's always either a normal Success card or a gain card that counts as winning the encounter. Considering Steam achievements show that apparently nobody got this achievement yet, can I conclude it's not currently possible?

my suggestion is use the gold reward from the devil with the little demon and goblin merchant aswell as start with fates path or whatever it's called and do a challenge with lots of wheel challenges like justice

Sadly, that blessing explicitly only adds Huge Success cards to chance gambits, not wheel gambits.

That blessing doesn't affect wheel gambits.

I think I've only seen one huge success on a wheel gambit. It wasn't a repeatable card. At best you would only be able to get 2 out of 10 with that card and forgotten dreams.

I feared it might exist on a non-repeatable card, but then that achievement is fundamentally flawed and straight-up impossible unless you play through the game several times.

The intention is to reward players who enjoy re-playing the game's challenges and do well at these rare gambits. From that perspective, the achievement isn't flawed and is behaving as expected.

The hope is that players will discover these organically as they come back to the game in weeks/months/years, but if you're really keen for a hint: Most of the wheel gambits with "huge success" cards in them are challenge-specific, but The Far North is probably a good one to include in your decks if you have it.

Good luck!

Thank you for the hint, but the card you mentioned gets removed from your card pool once you've got the token. I can mainly speak for myself here but I sincerely doubt most people who come back to the game will go for a clean save file 9 more times and thus organically get the achievement. Unless that one will show up in Endless Mode, it still seems weird from a design perspective, especially considering it's the only achievement in the game that forces you to replay the whole campaign multiple times.

Maybe there are like two more similar events I'm somehow forgetting, but even then the Grifter achievement might as well say "100% the game four times". I love this game, as evidenced by my desire to do everything it offers, but that's a bit much even for me. Apologies if this sounds entitled or whiny, I just can't help but scratch my head at that apparent disparity compared to every single other achivement.

I didn't say anything about requiring players to create new saves...

If you don't have The Far North, keep an eye out for one of the 4 challenge-specific encounters with "huge success" options in their wheel gambits!

Huh, 4 of them? I did try to find challenge-specific stuff but I must not have been looking hard enough. Hard to believe I missed so many. Thanks, I'll see what I can find!

Let me know if you find them will you? That acheivement will be a pain otherwise.

Well, I found one! The Prison Mage encounter in the Sun challenge. You have to try and leave, not fight them. Now I have to decide if I wanna farm that one or try to look for one that's more easily accessible.
twpe Nov 13, 2017 @ 2:42am
I killed everything in the prison for food and gold (had harvester, bounty hunter, and gladiator... switched helms based on what I needed). So, I definitely missed that one. Nice find.

Well you can be super lucky in the exit location on the first floor. OR you can be stuck on the first floor for what seems like ages. So farming that is a crapshoot I guess. Might be better of forfeiting if the stairs don't spawn near you.

Edit: I do like that challenge though. I might just farm that later.

Completely agreed sentence to sentence. To circumvent the pain, do you know how to get clean save? I could not find the save folder.
Edit: I just saw you completed the achievement. Can you please enlighten us of your way of getting it?

I've found one particular event and just did that one over and over. In the Sun challenge, you have to go to the second map and then find the "Prison Mage" encounter. Now instead of attacking, try running away. There will be a Huge Success on the wheel.

As I said, most of them are challenge-specific. You will need to find those within specific challenges. You don't need a fresh save for that. The Far North is the only one that you can specifically put in your deck if you have it.
