Is Tour of Duty even worth it?
With Tour of Duty tickets costing from 1.33-1.66 ref or 2 for a key (if you can even find someone selling for 1.33, which is rare...), is the payout even worth it? You need 6 tickets to get a botkiller, so that's 3 keys...and not one strange silver botkiller is worth that much. The chance of getting a gold is so rare, and even then, thats only about a 200% profit increase (gold botkiller is on average 9 keys, let's say).

Profit wise, is there even a point in doing these tours anymore, now that the prices have stabilized?

Never EVER pay 2x refined to those greedy bastards. I pick up all my vouchers for 1-1.33 & i have been saying from day one, don't sell ANY bot weapons for less than 4 keys. Let those low ballers play Mann up themselves if they want a bot weapon. All that time & accomplishment gone to a free loader for 2x refined is insulting. Thats one reason why i have never traded/sold any of my bot weapons

1. you can buy a tour of duty ticket for $1 and a surplus is $2. So if you buy keys (which are $2.50) you're wating money. 2. the botkiller weps are like the stock weps unless they make a botkiller golden wrench, (which would be epic) there is the visual bot head (discluding the hats and they look awsome) why use them?

I trade for my keys, I refuse to buy it from the Mann Co Store.

I know what they look like, I'm just saying profit wise, its not a great investment.

I have already posted in a couple of other topics - but I feel strongly and so am trying to spread the word.

MvM is simply too expensive. Wacker m8 - you are right about the prices, but IMO the problem lies with the cost of the tickets in the first place, not the value of the items afterwards.

I dont need to pay anything, I know that, but boot camp is full of people who join and leave at a moments notice. Joining through the server list gives a 95% chance of endless adverts. You also get alot of new guys and kids in boot camp who simply do not know what they are doing (Not an out and out dig at these people - i am just pointing this out)

NO - the only real way to get a good game of MvM from start to finish is to pay.

Compare to the other pay to play in TF2 - duelling. A duelling ticket costs $1. For that you get 5 duels. and if your duellists do the descent thing - you can double that as they duel back. Win 10 duels get a free item and another duelling ticket. At the very least a half descent duelist can get 10 wins for around 2 tickets.

OK - so the rate of item return is much better with mann up. You are guaranteed an item for your $1. But here for me is the nub of the problem. In duelling you can play all day for a couple of dollars. In Mann up if you are any good $1 buys you 1 hours pay. IF its a voucher group - thats $3. For ONE HOURS PLAY.

A bit of a moan I know that - and before the flames start I am not poor or anything. I can afford the tickets. Its a principle thing - IMO the tickets are simply too expensive, and I think we should make a stand. Somehow. This is simply too much money for one hour of game time. And to make matters worse the better you are - the more it costs.

At the very least there should be a way of earning your tickets back. Maybe IF you dont fail a round in an advanced mission you get back your mann up ticket. Maybe if you dont fail a round and get A+ you get a free voucher. (they wouldn't be giving many away - trust me on that). Maybe they just do the descent thing and slash the prices in the store by at least half.

Do something Valve - please - throw us a bone on this one.

Couldn't agree more CritcH. The thing is, as you know, playing with a competent group cuts that play time to about 30 mins per map per voucher! Thats a hell of a price to pay for so little playtime & as (i) you said, throw in a voucher & you are getting ripped off by Valve, IMHO. I just can't comprehend why the rewards for the vouchers are not the same as the rewards when you use a key. Add a chance for an unusual & Valve will have another cash cow on their hands instead of us gamers (slowly) coming around to feeling ripped off by the cost. I can understand the attraction of going full voucher after our time with the kids (no offense) on random Mann servers but now that most of us are using groups & most are now going voucher-less, their cow will remain in pasture.
And again as i said before, why the hell didn't they allow those random ♥♥♥♥♥♥ weapons from vouchers to be strange?

I can't comment on the duels because i have no interest in them although your points are correct.
I agree , Valve should do something about tickets !

Mecha & Expert are 3 Tickets each per tour. You get 3 random items (more if somone has bought surplus) and a Botkiller Wepaon. I've seen plenty of 1st timers win Diamond Botkiller Wepons. They can sell these for cash or Metal or whatever and buy more tickets.

I've sold about 9 Gold/Blodd/Diamond Botkillers on Steam and all the money goes towards more tickets.

So for me they are cheaper:P

I dont play x6 maps per tour..too long

Now with keys selling for twenty refined (not surprised if that's accurate), if you luck out and get a blood, diamond or gold botkiller, or one of the more pricey normal ones (scatter, rocket launcher, sniper rifle) you could profit.

I earned a diamond on my third Gear Grinder tour, but I'd say it just about evens out, for the amount of keys I traded for the tickets (when the tickets were 1.66-.77 each) and surplus vouchers. I used 2 vouchers and one of them I got the phantom party mask when it had the same trading value as the voucher, at the time. The other voucher only gave me an extra weapon.
It only evens out for the amount of time spent in expert, and the time trading; Unless you have done so many tours that the weapons you earn have those outside-of-the-game viewable high-level numbers.

No, tours are not really worth it. If you want the badge, then do it once and call that good.
Radioactive Panda 2013년 5월 6일 오전 9시 51분
If you enjoy man up but don't care for botkiller etc just find one map which you don't like and complete all the other missions and you are allowed to do those missions over and over again.

as long as you don't complete the tour you won't use anymore tickets at that point.

Huh, I'd never even thought about doing that...
