"Validating Steam files" at launch

Ok so every time I try to launch TF2, for some reason it decides to "Validate Steam files". It doesn't take to long, so it just sounds like a mild inconvenience. But for some reason it gets stuck at 100% and never launches the game. I know lots of other people have this problem, so maybe somebody knows a solution?

Once it gets to 100% click cancel and launch TF2.

Here's how I fixed it, Left click on 'Team Fortress 2' on the game section on steam, go down to properties, then go to the 'Local Files' tab. Then go down to 'Defragment Cache Files'. Wait 5-10 mins and it should be done! If is doesn't work I'm sorry, I'm just trying to help. :D

I just got my new graphics card and I wanted to try out TF2 which was running poorly on my previous graphics card. The game runs excellently but it crashed when I was trying to change some of the settings. This crap started happening after I tried reopening it.

That just restarts the process.

Don't blame yourself, everyone has this issue.

Blame the new TF2 update.

Bad idea, This normally restarts the validation.
You need to wait for it to hit 100%, wait however long it takes, and it will say "files succesfully validated" then play.

I reinstalled TF2 and the problem mysteriously dissapeared. Hey, i'm not complaining.

This happened to my boyfriend's Mac the other day, and I heard it happening to lots of other people, too. He literally left it running overnight and when he got back to it, it STILL was stuck at 100 percent. Doubtful it would get fixed any time soon, he resorted to reinstalling TF2 completely and that fixed the problem for him.

It sucks, but it beats getting stuck on validating forever.

I am sorry if it didn't work for you, but it worked for me a couple of times, i have as well waited for it to finish validating, and that works too, i am going to try my method right now again to be sure..


EDIT: Tried again and was successful. Make sure the validation is at 100% before you cancel, otherwise it will indeed restart the validation, once its at 100% i was again able to cancel, relaunch and load the game

I am sorry if it didn't work for you, but it worked for me a couple of times, i have as well waited for it to finish validating, and that works too, i am going to try my method right now again to be sure..

Waiting worked for me as well.
