I like to think nobody is stupid enough to assume that... but, well... I've been wrong before.

Here's how to fix it:
- start TF2, note you have no items
- click on mann-co. store -> you'll get a "the mann co. store is currently closed" prompt after a couple of seconds
- close TF2
- start TF2 again and WAIT until you get this message in your console: "Applied updated item schema"
- your inventory is now back, congratulations

Well, impending doom, (Did not want to call you "fart") the thing I always do is restart TF2 after getting bored of vanilla items, and then I just play.
