Steam Overlay problems (TF2 only)
I've been having problems with my Steam Overlay while playing TF2.
The steam overlay is that hub you get to when pressing Shift+Tab simutaniously.

I get the problem when trading somebody in-game, when I try Shift+Tab, it "Blinks" and automatically closes the Overlay. Do you have this problem?

If you do have these problems, this is what works for me.

1. Try pausing the game, then press Shift+Tab while in the Menu.
2. Use your settings to set TF2 to lower graphics, then try the overlay, if it works you can set your graphics back to their original settings.
2. If you are on a Multiplayer Server, Try to disconnect then try the overlay.
3. Restart your TF2.
4. Restart your Steam client.

Did this help? Please post feedback in the comments.

It would be great for a mod to pin this, as the more tips I get, the more people that could be helped.

Same problem here only started happening about 5 hours ago, i tried a load of methods which didn't work, restarting TF2 didn't do it, Menu didn't work either, multiplayer server sometimes works and not to sure about the steam client :/

Hmmm.. These things have been working for me so I'm not sure about other people. So what did work for you? if you could reply it would greatly help this post.

Like I said, these are working for me I put this post up so other people could look at what worked for people other than me, so they could try multiple people's methods until it actually works.

Was your FPS low at times when the error occurred? and did the sound buffer some times?

FIXED IT!

It appears it was a combination of the steam client and the TF2 Restart, with a lowering of the graphics and video quality. After you get it to work just raise the graphics back up to previous levels and it should work.

This is a problem, I've had all of those things work, but more problems persist.

I think I'm doing something wrong. When you say restart Steam Client, does that mean I should just sign out and back into Steam or do you think I should just uninstall then reinstall Steam? Another thing I've tried is uninstalling/reinstalling TF2 but that didn't do anything.

I mean logging out, then logging in. did you try all of the solutions? They all worked for me.

Not sure if I lowered my graphic settings to the lowest possible. Which graphic settings worked for you?

I know this topic is pretty old, but I've just now found it and I've been having the problem for a while now. Nothing seems to fix it, no matter what I do. :|
