I can't play any mode in game why?

I am new, I installed game from steam store because I saw it is free, it is 11.9 GB it is not small file so I feel little bit dissapointed, wasted so many time for nothing. So when I click on multiplayer button it pops up me an error and training too everything I try sometimes it asks me for some key and asks me to log in to the steam as I already have logged. Something I can't figure out why? I have those errors my friend play it and now I can't play with him I saw gameplays and nothing if anyone think he could help please I will give more information about error.

GTA IV has 16+ GB if I remember correctly and that game costs money. Don't judge about a game just because it needs space.

Same problem here, not finding servers, no item connection to server. Been playing for 2 years.

When I click on find servers I see this :"Steam beta must be running to make use of Find Servers" should this solve my prob, is it worth of trying :) ?
