If you use direct hit, use a banner item. I don't recommend direct hit for newbs because of the small explosion range.

That was when the downside was -25% clip size instead of -25% damage, though...
Well nobody in league play uses any rocket launchers other than stock, and I don't see why any of the alternatives would be on the list of banned weapons.
Direct Hit is a great choice if you are a good aim, as the higher direct damage is always useful and being able to pop-up or air-bang targets and get crits is lethal.
However, new players should just use stock. It's the most straight-forward and versatile.
2)Black box is the best, if survivability is the top priority.
3)Beggars is all about timing your rockets.
4)Liberty as it was said above a good choice for learning how to aim and jump+melee kill with market gardener, Liberty is like a step towards learning Direct hit with its fire speed.
