Team Fortress 2
So if the Axting. is a Pyro Knife, should it get Knife mechanics?
The Axtinguisher has been retooled mechanically into a Pyro version of the Spy's knives, which is an interesting concept. But this faux-knife does not function like a knife, even if it shares the same reward system. All of the Spy knives share the following traits:

A custom animation to let the user know when he is able to "backstab" an enemy
Back hitboxes are kind of wierd, and melee in TF2 is still a bit of a crapshoot even in the best of circumstances, so you-can-backstab-now preparatory animations were deemed necessary for melee weapons which relied on them.

No random crits or critboosing ever, under any circumstances
Self explanatory. (I think the Axtinguisher may already have this one, but I'll put it here for the sake of completeness/in case I'm horribly wrong)

No "wind-up" time
With most melee weapons, there is a period after pressing the attack button where the user "winds up" his swing before damage gets dealt out. This means that melee combat also requires compensating for that pause and anticipating where your opponent will be by the time damage is ready to be done. Spy knives do not have this. If you press attack with a Spy knife while aiming at a reachable hitbox, there is no pause and (barring netcode shenanigans) damage is guaranteed. Spy knives used to have windup times - and actually had a fairly elaborate one specifically for backstabs - but it was eventually decided that they clashed too hard with backstabbing mechanics and were neutered into simple visual fluff. (Note that Knives still have the same rate-of-fire as normal melee weapons, they just shift the time of damage to "At button click" instead of "Slightly after button click)

Can trigger the Razorback
Probably wouldn't make a lick of difference one way or the other, but it's a unique property so in it goes. Plus, I think it would be funny.

Now that the Axtinguisher is essentially a Pyro-Knife, does it require or deserve these special things reserved for real knives? Or maybe some, but not others? Why or why not?

Except people will still turn around in time to block that backaxe
Because we all know how well 'back' mechanics work with latency.
IMHO, the Axtinguisher doesnt need knife mechanics, because - simply put - Pyro is not a Spy. It should be reverted to its original state.

Why? Because you'd expect a rocket launcher to shoot rockets and not ice cream cones either.

Pyrovision needs to get that done. RIGHT NOW.
