From what I've noticed, the translation is about 70% of the time are incorrect or "improvised", some idioms are also "simplified", as well as certain sentences completely omitted and dialog is missing (just like in first game). So I'd say english is better, unless you can understand russian. Problem with russian voice actors is that, they've been re-using THE SAME voice actors for: TV series, movies, cartoons, educational programs, video games, for at least past 15 years! It's really annoying at this point to hear same voices over and over again.

Purely though, this is a subjective preference. Some said russian voices are better for immersion. Be my guest.

Its supposed to be in Russia. How many people in Russia speak perfect English. Its called realism.

Tip: Don't play Far Cry 3. :)
Russian voice acting is absolutely horrible! It's like if I was trying to read from the script I'd still do a better job than these "actors"! Absolutely unbelievably bad voice acting that ruins the whole game experience!

Is the Russian VO really that bad? I started the game with the English VO, and thought *that* sounded atrocious, so I thought I would check if the Russian one is better ...

I must agree. And I was quite suprised how bad russian vo is when I first tried to play with it.

English, cos I don't speak Russian.
Igor, I'm sorry, but this is absolute bull! In fact, the Russian VO is absolutely perfect. I absolutely recommend Russian speech and English subtitles.

If you want to hear a really really bad VO, switch to German VO. Anna especially is so bad that she sounds like a 40-year old matron. Really, it's hardly bearable. ;-)

As much as I promote immersion, English is preferable. The subtitles for Russian only occur for main speech segments (cutscenes). Subtitles fail to appear when wandering around the various Metro Stations like Venice which is a really big immersion killer. Sure it is authentic Moscow Metro but its not that fun if you can't understand whats happening.

My biggest complaint is how they changed the voice actors of the characters from the first game. One example is how Miller sounds completely differnt and then I hear his voice as a random npc... I almost had no care for the main characters because they were differnt people from the ones I respected in Metro 2033.

I honestly dont mind the Russian VO's. After playing stalker and other games with the same voice actors. I sorta like hearing them in random games or movies. Its like finding an old friend in another story somewhere in the world.

I can see why people say to use Russian for immersion, but if you can't understand Russian then what's the point? If you are trying to immerse yourself in being the main character, he can understand the language being spoken around him.

So in my opinion using a language you understand is more immersive. If you can understand both Enlgish and Russian, then i would definitely say Russian though.

The Russian voices are much better, but I still play with the English voices anyway. Mostly because I like to be able to understand what they're saying without having to look at the subtitles. Having subtitles pop on the screen all the time kinda breaks the immersion for me.

dont use russian, you dont get subs when overhearing random convos and therefore miss out on a lot of nice flavour text / lore

All languages, French, It, Deutsch, Ukraine, Russian, etc. Enjoy them all. I think the voice overs are great in all languages. The text from speech is nice too and switch it up. TBH I love how this game allows multi language unlike some games, lets face the facts this game has alot of work put into it comparing to other games. If you think i'm wrong, you could be in denial :P Payday for crying out loud is a swedish made game, and we can't even get that. Some devs are lazy. Metro, you can tell they care customer base. Anyone that doesnt see that needs to buy more games :P
