selecting utility connections on PC
So I must have missed something. When I try to click on the icons for any of the utility connections (phone switchboard, electrical transformers, ect.) nothing happens. I know that I need to right-click to exit any other build modes first.

I can't even get through the 2nd tutorial because of this problem. I haven't been able to play much yet without being able to add in these utilities. Can someone please let me know what I should be doing?

EDIT: Axios beat me to it. Watch his vid.

That's... a weird one. It really is as simple as it sounds.

1) Normally, you click the utility icon in the bottom (powerplug and hammer), a box jumps out of the lower UI and the main screen goes grey-gridded.
2) This box is subdivided into different tabs for phone/electricity etc. Clicking these tabs changes colors and the utility.
3) There's three icons within the tab. For electricity, the first two icons are designated by text as "Electrical Lines", with an icon of a line and a line with a red stripe through through it. The middle icon is designated "Wiring Closet" with the icon of a grid with the colors yellow, orange and red. Last three icons are designated "Electrical Transformers" and the icons are of batteries of various fullness.

4) First, you need a transformer. Select the emptiest battery of the three on the left and place it one floor BELOW ground. Tap the icon, drag the mouse on the main screen and you can see the box outlined on the greyed screen. Place it on the lowest level of your tower.

5) Then, you need wiring closet. Repeat step 4 on the middle icon and place it above the box placed at step 4.

6) You need to place line. Select the very first icon and drag it away vertically, starting from the object you placed at step 5.

If it's not working... what step exactly isn't and how doesn't it meet expectation? Is the game simply unresponsive and you can't see the object on your mouse cursor? Or does the object refuse to be placed and stay red?

Skirlasvoud,

The problem arises around step 4 in your last comment. When I click on the
icon that looks like a battery (whether for a transformer, phone switchboard, ect.) nothing happens. Nothing appears for me to drag to my desired spot in the tower, even in the tutorial.

I looked at the video and it seems that an object should be appearing like if I were placing an office or restaurant. Placing offices and apartments in a tower works fine, it's just the main utility connections that aren't working.

That's weird. I suggest reinstalling your game. Something has to have been corrupted under install. :/ I mean, if offices work, it's not your controller scheme. It's a corruption in the game.

You mention dragging the battery over... have you tried clicking instead? That is, open the menu in Skirlasvoud's step four, then *click* on the battery (but don't keep the button down), then move the mouse cursor over to the building, then click again in the basement?

So basically don't mouse-press-and-drag the battery, but just click, then move, then click again.

Just wondering if that's what the problem is...?

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I reinstalled the game last night with the same result regarding the battery icons. I've also tried clicking the icons once without holding down, double clicking, and still nothing works. Very frustrating!!

Actually, just tried uninstalling, restarting my PC, then reinstalling the game again, and it worked! I can now place the utility rooms without a problem. Thanks guys.

As you said, placing offices and restaurants works for you. The utilities work by the exact same principles...

Very weird.

Oh, one more thing. If you select something, there should be a cancel box in the lower left corner of the main screen. Does anything like that pop up when you select the utility?

That'll be the difference between the room not showing up on your cursor, or the game ignoring your input entirely.

No, the cancel box wasn't showing up before the 2nd reinstall I did today. Now it's working fine though. Very strange.
