Super Meat Boy

My fingers hurt from holding down Shift all the time
I find myself holding Shift to run 98% of the time in this game, and it starts to hurt after a few minutes. Is there a way to run all the time, or invert run so Shift means "Don't run"?

You ever read the warning at the startup?

I was gonna say this but i decided to not
That's no excuse. The PC controls shouldn't hurt your fingers after five minutes.
For me, it helps if I am using my left two fingers, not just the pinky.
Just move your pinky now and then. Keeping it stable will cause it to feel uncomfortable until moved.
I agree, default controls like that are garbage. The game controls really well with proper WASD controls imo.
So, there is a way to change the controls for Super Meat Boy. You have to go to your Program File > Steam > SteamApps > common > super meat boy, where you will find a file named "buttonmap.cfg". I hope you can open that file because I just tried and can't figure out how I did it when I first changed my controls, but you should be able to change your controls there. I think it says something like
special="shift"
I personally play with WASD and sprint (which is 'special') on J, but you can use what you want. So for me, I changed it to
special="j", but that's probably not comfortable either if you want to move with the arrow keys.
Keep in mind these controls only work when you're inside a level, the game still uses the default keys like arrow keys instead of WASD for the menu.
If you can't figure out how to edit buttonmap.cfg (like I do right now...) or explicitly want to invert the function of the shift key like you said in your first post, I'd recommend you check out AutoHotkey.
Hope I could help.
Thanks for the buttonmap.cfg suggestion. Though any particular key I choose would be painful. I'm looking for a control scheme change a bit more drastic than that, that wouldn't require ANY key to be held down so long.

I'm floating the idea of inverting the run key, so that you run when you DON'T hold it down, which is most of the @#&*$^& time.
Dude, this game has strengthened my pinky muscles like you would'nt BELIEVE. I be liftin' elephants with only my left pinky.
I am happy to report that my Xbox 360 wireless controller works seamlessly with Super Meat Boy on my MacBook Air with Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks and the TattieBogle driver!

Holding the Xbox button down to run all the time eventually starts hurting, but not nearly as much as the Shift keyboard key does.
I started playing smb with controller... and the trigger to run made my finger ache after holding for long periods of time.

So i switched to keyboard partly cause of that.

shift is easier for me to hold down without hurting
