Random game crashes/freezes

Dear Supreme Commander players,

Today I installed SC2 on my new PC to play some games with my brother. Unfortunately the game keeps randomly crashing/freezing and I have no clue of what is going on.

Problem:
Randomly* in a skirmish or multiplayer game, the game freezes. CPU usage stops, RAM usage does not stop. No error message is shown, nor does it crash to desktop. It just freezes and I have to end it in task manager.

*Random like REALLY random: sometimes 10 seconds in the game, sometimes 30 minutes. I managed to complete my first game in 22 minutes without problems. Games I did after that crashed.

Info about my system:
CPU - i5-3470 - 30% usage ingame
8GB DDR3 RAM
Asus HD 7850
OS - Win 8 x64

I have tried updating my graphics card drivers, it did not help.
I also tried setting the game on lowest settings, 1 screen, 2 screens, nothing helped.

Does anyone know of this problem?

Check local files using steam.
1. Right click on game in steam libaray
2. properties
3. local files tab
4. verify integerity of local game files


Also on a side note this happened to me a few years back, and it was caused by the graphics card, not sure what the fix was. Because one day it just started working again.
Things i tried was
1. Reinstall game
2. Reinstalll graphics card
3. Deleated "game.prefs" located here C:\Users\(*YOUR USER NAME*\AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander 2.... And then verified local games files

Thanks for the tips. I have played 2 games without freezes.
I did the following:

1- Uninstall SC2
2- Install SC2 (but now on SSD)
3- Uninstall GPU driver
4- Install GPU driver

My game won't even load. Bouht it a couple of days ago and can't even play. Tried your suggestions...no luck.Might try it on the laptop on the weekend. Not happy Valve. :~(

sorry for necroing to nitpick, but Valve didn't make the game, and didn't write the code... What you did is synonymous to blaming GameStop because a game you bought is buggy.

If you want to blame a company, blame the company that developed the game.

in anycase, hope your game works now,a s it is quite fun once it does.
