Repetitive trash. "Rico Rodriguez returns to unleash chaos in the most creative and explosive ways imaginable." Yeah no, it's the same 5 ways done a million times.

Releasing to a fairly crowded open-world market in 2015, Just Cause 3 offered up the same rip-roaring destruction as its predecessors across another gigantic map, though the size of its world was no longer enough to compete with games like Metal Gear Solid 5 and The Witcher 3.

Taking place on the Mediterranean island of Medici, Rico Rodriguez teams up with a band of rebels to overthrow General Di Ravello. The third-person action mixed with a huge number of vehicles and some extreme stunts is still on good form with the major additions moving the franchise forward a bit. The wingsuit and destructible environments are worthy components and causing chaos has been refined to give the player a list of defined destruction targets for each settlement. The game also offers up some difficult challenges to earn upgrades and some tacked on stats that compare your performance with other players.

Just Cause 3 is often picked as the best of the series by many fans. But for me, Just Cause 2 just inches it out with its faster pace and wackier scenarios. The story of 3 is very pedestrian and puts aside the b-movie charm of its predecessor. The pacing also slows down a fair bit towards the end as the number of destruction targets increases dramatically. Some of the missions are also pretty crap with the worst being driving wine crates to a location as one of the characters reads off some cringe-worthy lines.

The DLC packs are quite good for the most part with Sky Fortress taking first place in the Air. Land and Sea Expansion Pass. By giving Rico a jetpack, you'll be feeling like Iron Man as you blast around a flying battleship. The Bavarium Sea Heist sits in second, bestowing the player with an awesome super-weapon on completion after you pilot a heavily armed boat to destroy the enemy forces. Finally, the mech land assault is enjoyable when you're in the titular vehicles, but not so much when you're freeing hostages and waiting for a timer to run down.

Ultimately, Just Cause 3 is still well worth your time; it remains very popular with the fanbase and buying a complete edition is often super cheap in the sales. Anyone looking for some straightforward, free-wheeling carnage won't be disappointed.
