It was real, the issue was fixed shorty after it was released, also if this was a late April Fools joke then it would have infected everyone that plays GMOD however it only infected players that accessed certain servers.

Speaking of this virus, I have a copy of the source code on hand- I was lucky enough to nab it off dropbox the night it came out. It's actually pretty damn nasty.

I think it was cool of that guy to make that virus.

This exploit exist since years and people can make serious crap abusing it, I am glad that this guy made a harmless virus that made Valve fix this. Because this crap exist since a long time and Valve just refused to patch it, now thanks to that guy it is partly fixed.

I would hardly call this harmless, after being infected last night I can not move what so ever on any server. Any time I try it says "Vinh'll fix it!!!" I can't hit esc or TAB, I cant hit crtl or alt, and worst of all. When I try to leave it brings up a picture of an asian eating a carrot. It has ruined my Gmod and after reinstalling it 5 or 6 times now and deleting lua and cfg files 4 times I have given up. It seems my life on Gmod has come to an end to this "harmless" virus.

he just messed with one game and it can easily by fixed by deleting some configs and a dll file.

It's affecting the server, not you.
