black screen + computer freeze

As the title says, when I try to launch fallout my screen turns black and my computer freezes. I have no clue how to fix this, any solutions anyone? thx in advance

have you tried installing the Fixt mod/ patch?

I did, and this is kinda weird. When I install it, fallout runs fine. I exit fallout, do whatever on my pc, and after a few minutes my pc freezes again, without screen turning black. So I restart my pc, And then Fallout just gives me another black screen and freeze, and if I install the fixt thing again it works again till I restart my pc. This is weird :/

I found this patch to be amazingly helpful. I am running Win7x64 Pro.

Installed the patch as directed and followed the simple instructions.
The special graphics config needed to be a bit to tweek to just the way *I* wanted it, but this patch makes running Fallout 1 (he also has a patch for 2) super simple.
