It depends on what kind of ore. To make wrought iron for example, all you need is wrought iron and a hammer. If you are looking to make ingots you'll need a sand cast flask, tongs, limestone powder, carbon powder and talcum powder.

Yea but when i search the term "cast" in the crafting, nothing comes up. How do I make a cast?

This one actually took me a while too. Then, I found a old "Mossy Book" in the Cave under my house once I got bold enough to go exploring. The entry in the book was from a smithy that gave a lot of hints about how to make Ingots and "Purified" metals. After finding the book and experimenting a bunch, I finally found the solution and it felt great! Though I do admit that going over 150,000 turns (Total of two games) without knowing and being frustrated was getting pretty old. That Mossy Book was a Dev Send and my gaming experience has been changed from "Survive as much as possible on my island" TO "Omg what's the other islands like and what do they have I don't?"

yea definitly i really love the game, but being stuck in the stone age was kind of frusterating. I like learning things in games. and i have a general idea of how actual smelting works but knowing how to do it how the game wants me to do it is a different story which drove me nuts

We're going to be adding some more hints as well as some more ingredients (more ways to make a sand cast) coming up in 2.6 to help solve this a bit.
