sec96e.tmp doesn't work anymore --> crash
Am I the only one, who gets that error? Whenever I start ToS, at the Bandai Namco screen, it starts to freeze and then it says sec96E.tmp or any other sec***.tmp doesn't work anymore and ToS crashes/closes. I use Windows 7 64-bit

Loads of people get the error, especially (or only?) Windows 7 users. I'm one of said users.

I had the same problem. Closed msi afterburner program and it worked fine since then. Try restarting your steam client as well.

oh ok, thought I was the only one, since all I read are options/menu crashes, but not starting crashes.
@texhnolyze: i dont have msi afterburner program, so i cant close that; restarting steam didnt work :(

Have you tried running it with fullscreen set to 0? There's a CustomConfig.conf in the game's directory that you should be able to edit and change it to 0.

Also, have you tried setting your system audio quality to 44khz?

Additionally, try disabling the Steam Overlay just for Tales of Symphonia.

I too have this issue but none of the above so far has worked for me. Any other tips?

Do you have MSI Afterburner, RadeonPRO or RivaTunner? If yes, disable it.

Also, disable your antivirus, since some of them seem to hate the DRM used by this port.

i've also installed Visual C++ Redistributable Packages für Visual Studio 2013, maybe that could help you?

All the solutions I have seen ended up working - Install the Visual C++ Redist, set the game to windowed mode (annoying but helped), disabling Steam UI in game. - There is still the occasional problem, but it's playable. - also the DRM writes into a folder named "TL" in your C Root folder - It will do that anytime you start the game so just remember when you are done playing to delete it.

That's what I did anyway in the end and it ran fine for me, except that sometimes on menus it would pull up a rectangle of almoststationary pixels, like a long thin screenshot just off the centre of the window - Fixed easily by click ing out of the window and then back in.

Alas, I've tried them all. Unfortunately I'm still getting the sec crash. Thanks for the help though.

Yep, did that this last time around. Still crashed.

I'll wait a bit to see if the developers come up with a solution for the sec issue. I've got 2 weeks, hopefully there'll be a workaround before then.
