Grave Prosperity and I have an... interesting history, to say the least. Back at the last site I worked for (VGU.TV), I was given the opportunity to review the original form of this game given my history with streaming horror games, and presumably because I was the new guy and no one else wanted it. So I accepted, and... let's just say it wasn't great. Clumsy combat, awkward controls, unforgiving enemies, brutal bosses, and basically anything else you could think of to infuriate a player was present.

But this is the "Redux" up here on Steam, so let's not dwell too much on the past. I was genuinely surprised a new version had emerged at all, so I decided to give it a shot out of morbid curiosity. And, in fairness, things improved... slightly. I'm sorry I'm using so many ellipses in this. Anyway, a lot of fat had been trimmed from the game's initial version. Shorter intro, with some of the more ridiculous bits (like suriviving a sledgehammer to the head) cut out. Things felt a bit more navigable, and finding your way around wasn't quite as much a chore. At the same time, combat felt even more frustrating and impossible, and those ridiculous death animations still felt excessive and repetitive, especially given how often the game likes to kill you off.

I've never been a fan of the visuals, either; the enemies, whatever they are, mostly feel like generic "mutants" or "zombies" with no real appeal, and our heroine looks like a commission job from a Poser or Blender fetish artist on DeviantArt. Not feeling it. Despite all this, I made it to the end of the Redux version, which stops a great deal sooner than the first iteration. I'm guessing things are going to be more episodic this time around, between that and the "Part 1" designation. At least it didn't end on an impossible boss battle this time.

Despite my multiple fronts of frustration with Grave Prosperity, I give the developer some credit for stubbornness in sticking to its baby. Clearly, they believe in this property, and want to find a way to make it work. Whether it can, I can't say, but hopefully they at least take some lessons away from this and apply this to a different game or find a new format to tell the tale they want to.

As the game stands right now, I can't recommend it. I'm curious what the "major update" in the game's description will bring, so I may give it one more chance once that's done and released. If so, I'll update and amend this review accordingly. But in its current state? Nope.

This game is short, and based on dev announcement it is unfinished. So there is no part 2, etc... because the new game patch became another game entitled "City of Amber" and dev abandon this project. Later, Dev gave free key to anyone for limited time and remove the game from store so anyone can't buy this game anymore.

Maybe this is the last review for this game.

Grave Prosperity : Redux - Part 1 is a unique game in my humble opinion. The game is side scrolling hack n slash action game blend with element of horror like Clock Tower, Silent Hill or Resident Evil. Player can play as Amber Ridge, a beautiful chick (which know how to fight especially with machete) that came to Town of Prosperity. In that town, she's trapped in the mansion which become a horrible nightmare for her.

Something that I like in this game is the death scene animation of Amber, it is brilliant thing in this indie games. This thing remind me the protagonist various death from Dead Space games. And I like that. The fight is good, but sometimes it is sloopy and becomes really hard when play it in normal. So easy mode, it is a good start to play this game. Voice acting in this game is good too, sometimes Amber whiny when open the door and it is fun to hear. There save point, that we can save the game and upgrade Amber skill from her exp gained. This RPG element is the good things too.

But, there is something I didn't like too. Like Amber character is too big compared to the background. And there is no way to change the resolution, mapping the key control, menu to quit the game and grainy low resolution background.

As a single person indie games developer, this game is good. Yes, there is flaw that I can forgive. Alas, the game is end too fast become reach it potential. It is a shame. But, I will looked into his next true potential of Grave Prosperity game entitled City of Amber. Maybe the next game will show the true potential of Grave Prosperity.

Well, as a single game, I can't recommendation this game because it is unfinished game. But, if you want a unique good game, this game is for you. So look for the key, because this game is removed from steam store.

Well people, you pay three dollars for a game and you get a three dollar game. I for one got a couple hours of genuine entertainment and some frustration from it. For three bucks, hey, it passed the time. The backgrounds are a little grainy and difficult to navigate but the protagonist is fairly well done and a lot more work went into this than you may think. Every death has it's own brutal cutscene, which I loved cause it made dying more interesting... it happens fairly often with slow controls and teleporting enemies. For the price it was very worth it and I actually look forward to the next installment.

even though i may not like this game because its not my thing and the game engine choice maybe wasn't the best, you can see the developers are trying their best and they're not trying to absorb everyone's money.
and graphics don't really matter, the effort being put into the game alone is good enough for me to recommend it.

Despite me going into this expecting a turd, i was surprised at how much this game delivered. Decent combat system, though dodging is way OP which makes blocking almost useless. Death animations are decent, with some hilarious bad cutscenes thrown in.

Overall the game as a good atmosphere and with some polish it could have been great. On a personal note, don't put a woman in high heels into a creepy/combat situation... it looks always so stupid, just look at movies like Charlie's Angels.

Part 1 is the only part and if you know what you are doing, this game is about 10min long, 1 hour if you still have a sense of wonder, exploration and some deaths.

I went into this purchase thinking, "sweet, another indie survival horror game". I'm now wondering if this may be the first 2 dollars I regret spending (and I've spent money on some pretty pitiful stuff! Think Shaq-fu... classic). The game is very broken. Not like just difficulty either.

-Hit detection is god awful
-Counter system is useless and usually leaves you taking a hit right afterward
-When enemy decides to spam teleport just put controller down and enjoy the death scene
-No ability to skip death scenes (which is what half your play time will be composed of anyway on any difficulties past easy, believe me I know)
-Terrible navigation, I've actually managed to teleport back to rooms I had just been in while moving in the opposite direction of the room.
-Glitchy checkpoints, my checkpoint on the first enemy had me stuck getting hit and taking damage before the game actually loaded.

I'm hoping I'll have a reason to remove this review or correct it in the future, but as it is, I'd say it's about as fun as trying to beat ninja gaiden 1-3 with your feet, blindfolded, and all while having yourself castrated with a cheese-grater. The combat is even more awkward than trying to drink spaghetti out of a bendy-straw. Having Diahreea leak out of your eye sockets is less painful than having to play this game. Congress is contemplating an end to waterboarding criminals as a torture technique and instead implementing hours of "Grave Prosperity", so long as it remains unfixed and unpatched.

I recommend this game to
-those who are insanely masochistic,
-your worst enemy
-those who acquire stiffies from death scenes in vidja games.
-those contemplating suicide but feel there may still be beauty in this world worth living for

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to play some more since I'm a complete and utter masochist. Let the vicious cycle of misery and woe complimented by self-hatred commence! Whoooohooooooo!

After playing the game I did find that I enjoyed more things then I had gripes with, so I go quickly over a few of the drawbacks. First was the size ratio for the enviroments. I do somewhat like the old timey look of the game and the emphasize on creepy enviroments. However there is some inconsistancy in terms of how big the character appears (sometimes normal size, other times she looks like a giant) Another small grip comes from navigation. Many times I find myself pacing around because I can't tell that moving in a certain direction leads to a new room. While a map is not truly necessary their should be some indication as to what rooms are linked to the room I'm currently in. Keep in mind I'm just explaining these small issues in hopes that developers can make some small adjustments to make the game more enjoyable.

As for the pluses of the game:
-Nice enviroments: Love the creepy look of the surroundings and the haunting enemies
-Good voice acting
-combat that is challenging but fair (at times, the random teleportation has become annoying at times since you have such little time to react)
- Death Scenes :Probably my favorite aspect as I was a fan of Dead Space was the numerous death scenes that played with the game. It provided some sense of entertainment which is good since dying is quite easy and at times I wanted to see what the effect would be from losing to a certain enemy in a specific place. Hopefully this delightfully grim aspect will be expanded even more in future installments.

So overall I do enjoy the game and say if you would like a fun distraction with a nice dose of creepy mixed in I say pick it up , especially at such a cheap price of $1.99

why is the creator using scp containment breach music in the second video... plus the animations suck

TLDR: All the clunkyness of Resident Evil 1 without any of the cool horror atmosphere.

Review: Pregenerated fixed angle low res camera shots, screen edges changes camera angle in a stiff manner. Camera too zoomed in so lots of pointless camera swaps for no reason. Button to investigate is clunky to use. Slow to appear windows for mostly useless information. Hotspots for environment not inviting. Maze-like level design. Limited main menu but which serves double duty as the game<s user interface and holds the game's journal/objectives. The creepy 3D babe character has no soul. Removed for declutter
