You must really hate money to want to spend 20%+ more on each badge level.
You do realize that badges/cards total costs are related to how many there are right? 12 cards and the cards will go for 3-4 cents each, 5 cards, and they might go for 10-12 cents each. You end up paying the same either way, it's supply and demand 101.
There are other factors that make up the cost/value of a badge as well, like the popularity of the game, and what crafting them can yield, like an lol meme Pepe emote, or a background with anime t i t' s.
Smaller sized sets are much easier to craft because of the booster packs. They only come with 3 cards regardless of set size. Also buying cards is easier/cheaper usually because for large sets you pay a lot of transactions costs.
