Bees :)
I was outside watching a bee gather some pollen in a flower and I had a thought: you know what Ark is missing? Swarms of giant bees! :hee:

I know there are beetles and dragonflies, but it would be cool if there were bees you could some how use. For instance, maybe you can find a hive and gather the queen. Bring it back to your base and set up a bee box which would make crops grow faster. Possibly having bees could cause mutations to the crops you can only get with bees. And they could double as area guards.

And their AI will go as such- they just buzz around you and keep close like a Compy but if you accidentally hit it it'll sting you and then all the other bees in the area will come swarming at you, causing a severe but easily treated disease.
There may also be naturally spawning beehives that work similarly to beaver dams, which will be guarded by an alpha "queen bee" that will drop a pheromone sac. There will also be craftable bee farms that you can supply with Rare Flowers, Amarberries and the Pheromone sac that Bees will be attracted to over the player for you to gather honey from, which can be used as a consumable or an ingredient for remedies or as a crafting material for a cementing paste substitute.

Oh, I just noticed you updated the main article AFTER I wrote all that out lol.
Though to be entirely honest I would kinda like to see this happen, especially in the redwood forests.

It was a yes of excitement. I love the pheromones idea! They could be hive specific and perhaps turned into perfume so anyone who approached your base, or maybe just the bee box, without one would be considered hostile or something.

It would be super fun if they implemented this. I've loved bees in Minecraft and Don't Starve, in Ark they would fit right in for sure.

NOOOOO o my gosh i Hate bees

Sure, but please not all over the map. There should be some places where we are safe from bee swarms (unless we're stupid enough to kite them far away from their natural spawns).

If they mainly inhabited the redwoods and a few spots just outside the swamps and a couple rare spawns in deep forests I think that'd be fine. Though, of course we're kinda just making things up and improvising lol. Though I do kinda like the idea of bees, that or little "ant farm" structures that you put berries and meat in to make ants non-hostile and drawn to it while it gathers chitin from them as they shed or something. I like the idea of bees a little more though. ^u^

While I would agree with this, giant bees aren't exactly a common thing in paleontology. Titanomyrma is probably the closest thing to a giant bee/wasp/ant because it was around when ants and wasps were really starting to evolve. Unless the dev team is interested in pulling another Araneo it'd be difficult to explain away how giant bees could be in the game.

Really what we need is to take your idea and apply it to Titanomyrmas. Essentially they'd live in anthills that would behave like beaver dams, though the resources you can find would include thatch, perhaps spoiled meat, and grubs for kibble. Ant behavior would need to change so that they essentially ignore you while on their own but when in groups or when you raid a nest or accidentally hit one they attack in a swarm like actual ants. They also need to have some sort of swarming AI that can be sent out from an anthill to kill and harvest resources en masse in an area as their anthill grows; the big counter of course being that in the future a dino, bird, or prehistoric beasty should be implemented to act as a giant anteater, such as the big ground sloth Megatherium.

I hate bees too, but as a game implementation they could be pretty interesting. Or as Kerion says, just revamp some of the other creatures to fulfill the roles we wanna see.
Though I... really do want bees. ;~;

And if you get stung by one has a chance of sending you into anaphylactic shock thus killing you. :steammocking:

Lets add a peanut plant too. :steammocking: :steammocking:

Honey + Beer barrel = Mead
Honey + Corn = Breakfast.

Bear gets a bonus for harvesting hives.
