Game has always online drm. Requires steam cloud to play. Please sticky this thread!

Which basically rules out offline play. FFS, square...why?

Can you not deliver us a game without some kind of problem? Was interested when I read that is runs a lot better than its predecessors, but forced steam cloud/online drm= no buy.

Edit: Let me add some clarification.

The problem is this: the game requires an internet connection in order to launch. Or rather it requires the steam client to be in online mode to launch. Originally, I thought the issue was that it wouldn't start with steam cloud disabled, however as proven by a lot of posters in this thread, the issue extends beyond that. The game will not run if you have no connection to the internet, even if steam cloud is enabled in your client.

So to put on the store page "requires steam cloud in order to play" is lies. It requires a net connection in order to play which completely negates the steam offline mode feature which people who game on the move (or have poor/unstable internet connections) rely on.

I urge all for whom this matters to keep this thread active before it becomes buried. It ideally needs a moderator or community liason from square to pin this thread and to rectify this situation. As things stand now, the game's reliance on steam's online mode is basically mimicking "always online" drm, of which there is no mention on the store page.

The title of this thread was accurate at time of creation. Since then further information from users came to light which only reinforced the fact that the game will NOT work without a net connection. I also stated that the game's reliance on steam being online (whether intentional or not) MIMICKS always online drm.

It doesn't REQUIRE Steam cloud to be played. However, there might be problems with your Steam cloud data overlapping the local data if you're offline. This is not the first game to do that, won't be the last.

Sounds like a problem on your end, there is no online drm.

Actually, Steam itself is a DRM. Steam cloud is not, it's just... well, the cloud. This user is just finding issues where they don't exist. Probably trolling :/

Well booted the game with steam cloud off and it won't run. So yes, it DOES require it.

No trolling is posting false information. I am doing no such thing. If I load the game with the cloud sync off, it won't run. Its on the store page and other sites too.

If steam is in offline mode, cloud sync cannot work, thus the game won't be playable offline.

Sorry, but there's something wrong at your end. I can play games with Steam cloud support just fine.

No... you're right, the game only says just that... but it's totally not required. First refund on steam ever here I come.

This is the only game where steam cloud is required to play the game. All others i've played only have it as an added option for save management.

Well I'm sorry then, that's a first. Definitely not the first game I own that uses Steam cloud, surely the first that won't let me play it without the service. I had other problems with Steam cloud, but not of it acting as an always on DRM.

Wow. I didn't think this would be a thing. It isn't a problem for me, since my internet is on all of the time and the few times it IS off I am sleeping because they'll do maintience at like 3, 4 in the morning, stuff like that....

....But still, this is rather a problem. Wonder if they'll patch this problem out too? :P
