How are we killing the four great ones if King Vendrick already did?

Chancellor Wellage says Vendrick already killed the 4 great ones... so why are they alive

There was different Great Ones in Vendrick times. The Souls of the Great Lords (Gwyn, Nito and others) are indesructible and reincarnated in another beings after burning

Basically the four great ones of our time; The Rotten, Old IronKing, Freja, and Sinner. Like the guy above me said he fought different Great Ones.

Wrong. Gwyn has no lord soul when we're coming for him. Kings and dragon have shards of one lord soul. Only Nito and bed have lord souls at the time DS1 begining. Moreover 4th lord soul is dark and shared between humans.

Gwyn has a soul, of course, he give part of it to several beings and in DS2 one part of his soul - the shard he gave to Seath the Scaleless was so powerful so it become independend. This shard can create his own Great One, and on our time it is The Duke's Dear Freja. (In Vendric times there was another)

Oh, and Shards of 4th lord soul, Manus, also exist, very much alive and acting.

There are no 4 Lord souls. 2 of them divided. Soul of Gwyn and soul of Manus are not lord soul. Dude, start DS and check it out, lord souls and shards of it are in key directory, souls of Gwyn and Manus - usable items.

Ah, wait, now i can see the flaw in your logic.
It lies in description of the Gwyn soul - while souls of Nito and the Witch clearly named Lords Souls.
Well, look at the Seath Soul - it called Bequeathed Lord Soul Shard. Its a shard of Gwyn soul, therefore Gwyn Soul=Lord Soul.
The same with Manus. He has one of original Lord Souls, Dark Soul, but like Gwyn, he divided his soul, weakened it.

They are usable items just because they dont need to fill Lordvessel. (Others was put in key section that players dont waste them and dont stuck)

And there wrote Gwyn kept himself only sword. He shared lord soul between persons who was worthy. Seath, kings, probably his kin(aka gods) and silver knights(just remind occult weapon created to kill gods deals extra damage to knights). And we can assume someone just reassembled it, but if it's true nobody did it for 4th soul because humanity still exist.

Gwyn cannot shared whole soul, because he need it to rekind the First Flame.
Yes, he splin and shares many fragmenst, but his original Lord Soul was so incredible powerful, that after all this sharing (especially sharing to Seath, his shard must be HUGE, to evolving in independent great soul), it still was avaible fo burn in Flame for 1000 years and even survive after that, even after killing Gwyn and burn again (if Light ending is truly canon) and reincarnated later in the Great Ones.

FYI: Freja's soul is not the great soul. The soul you pick up from the slain dragon above freja is the great soul.

Indeed, and that is stange because Freya drop both Freja's soul and Old Paledrake Soul.

Until Miyazaki say "yes, Gwyn's soul is lord soul" we must consider it as ordinary soul beause the game itself say it.
