In the path, as te default steam path
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DiRT 3 Complete Edition\actionmap

Copy te file tm_t500rs.xml to tm_t300rs.xml

edit tm_t300rs.xml, with notepad, replace

<ActionMap actionMapName="tm_t500rs" deviceName="Thrustmaster T500 RS Racing wheel" priority="12">

with

<ActionMap actionMapName="tm_t300rs" deviceName="Thrustmaster T300RS Racing wheel" priority="12">

Save the file
now edit actionMapPaths.xml in the same path
copy and paste as new line

<xmlreader processor="ActionMap2" filename="actionmap/tm_t500rs.xml" map="UPDATE" pool="UPDATE_TEMPORARY" />

in the new line edit like this
<xmlreader processor="ActionMap2" filename="actionmap/tm_t300rs.xml" map="UPDATE" pool="UPDATE_TEMPORARY" />

in the path
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DiRT 3 Complete Edition\forcefeedback
edit devicesetup.xml
Copy and pasta as new line this line

<FFBDevice name="Thrustmaster T500 RS Racing wheel" scaleForce="0.6" scaleFriction="0.35" baseFriction="0.0" maxFriction="35.0" scaleEffects="0.85" delay="0.0"/>

Edit the new line like this

<FFBDevice name="Thrustmaster T300RS Racing wheel" scaleForce="0.6" scaleFriction="0.35" baseFriction="0.0" maxFriction="35.0" scaleEffects="0.85" delay="0.0"/>

In the windows, in the device profile set the wheel angle to 400º, work fine for me
In the game,use X wheel button for star the game ,in wheel avance options, remove death zones, set buttons, etc

I tried this and looked it over a few times, and I definitely did exactly what it said. Has this worked for anyone?

It works for me by manually mapping the keys.
No wheel preset shows up, only keyboard.
For the steering turn the wheel left for left key, it will show up as LEFT X-axis.
Do the same for right, break and accelerate.

And you have to set the Steering Deadzone to 0%.
I have also set the throttel/break deadzones to 0%

I have not tried strangegt's method, because it now works fine.

Yeah I've done that too, but I'm just tired of having to navigate the menus with a keyboard.. Are you able to get around without it using the wheel's d-pad? Also, if I flashback I have to use the keyboard and it's just annoying :(. I also feel like the wheel weight isn't enough even at 100.. It feels loose more than it should, I find... though I've never drifted cars around rally stages in real life so what do I know? :P

Thanks but the problem is that it's not even detecting the wheel in controller setup.. I can manually input controls for in-game driving (by going over keyboard settings) but I'm not able to navigate menus and whatnot because it doesn't detect it as a racing wheel..

Worked for me.
I created a guide with the solution: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=432432407

Take care of the space
Thrustmaster T500 RS Racing wheel
With space ---------^
Thrustmaster T300RS Racing wheel
No space------------^
Look your "Set up USB game controllers" for the correct name. (search this in windows 8)
If the name is correct in all files the device is autodetect by the game.
And of course set some options like deadzones, etc.

I had a similar issue but the onloy way i could get it to work was to go to Devices and printers in control panel, right click the wheel and get the name it uses in the Advanced tab (G27 wheel) The game was looking for Logitech G27 pro USb or somethign liek that, when i edited the xml file to have "G27 Racing Wheel" it worked straight away, the only thign that didnt work was the H shifter which i closed the game down and reopened and it worked.

Navigation with the wheel buttons is much easier :-)

Not sure if toix will see this but just wanted to say a massive thank you to you mate for enabling my thrustmaster t300rs steering wheel in dirt 3, I'd used the wheel with keyboard settings overridden and it worked ok but wasn't working as I really wanted plus couldn't navigate the game with the steering wheel buttons as was preferable, thanks to some research and your posts and file shares for the game I can play with the wheel and navigate with the onwheel buttons, absolutely transforms the game ! MASSIVE THANKS FRIEND !!

I've had the same problem with my T150 and this thread helped me a lot. Just a small notice for those who couldn't get it working:

You have to make sure that the name matches exactly your wheels name from Windows! The T150 show up as "Thrustmaster T150 Racing Wheel" (notice the uppercase "W" as opposed to the lowercase "w" for the T500). The wheel will show up only if the name matches EXACTLY!

To see the name you can go to the Control Panel and search for "Set up USB game controllers" (should be under "Devices and Printers").

If you did everything correctly the wheel shoul show up under Options/Controller/Preset. And you can even navigate the menus with the D-Pad, Use "X" for enter, and "O" for back/escape.

Thank you SO much for this hint! In Windows 10, the T150 shows up with a lower case "w", nevertheless it must be written with upper case "W" in the XML files. I've been searching for a solution for many days now, and your hint finally helped me to make it work. THANKS!!!
