can't craft house items only can build foundation

i've been using my hammer and all necessary materials for roofs, walls, etc bit it will only let me build a foundation for a house.

Have you put the palm fronds and sticks near the foundations?

Yeah the materials need to ve bear the foundation.

As dunkaroozy said, a hut is a staged construction. Things like support and walls can't be constructed unless the materials are right next to a foundation.

Cool thing about supports is once youve hooked a few foundations together and have your roofing all up you can knock out the supports in the middle and open your room up.

I'm having the same problem. I have no less than 50-75 of each material right next to & on the existing foundations and....nothing. I've tried leaving the game & coming back, bringing new supplies in from differing islands and even using different hammers etc. I'm at a loss and a standstill. My island is lagging pretty bad due to an abundance of material on it so I cant bring more on but I also cant build anything. I'm afraid I might have to scrap my save game & start from scratch if I cant find a solution. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

@ Harley , once your foundations down , the first thing you need are just sticks for the framing , stack em up on or near your foundation , use your hammer and click on a stick you should see Support show up on the drop down and you can snap it in place anywhere it turns blue. Dont worry if you get one in the wrong place or in the middle of a room , once your done simple knock the ones you dont want out with an axe or machete.

Oh, I guess I should have said I've actually built a couple of small huts on different islands so I'm familiar with how to do it. I have just been in search of 'the' island I'd like to call home & recently found it. Laying all the foundations for said base, I was getting the options in the drop down to do walls, supports, roof etc. & things were going along perfect. Then 2 days ago I suddenly cant build anything but a foundation, so I gathered more supplies thinking maybe I didnt have enough (crazy considering how much is there but anythings worth trying when you hit a snag) and still nothing. Just so weird that it suddenly derped like that into only letting me build foundations & absolutely nothing else. @yano thank you for the info though, much appreciated.
On a side note how great is that ability to remove supports? Love it!

@Harley your welcome , its hard to tell whos had experience building and who hasnt good luck on your search for the right home. An yes supports being knocked out ROCK! , you can also remove walls and roof's , i just added a nice sunlight to my living room :)

I'm assuming you're stockpiled with rope from yucca plants? Also check the durability of your hammer, if it's borked, you may not be able to build any more with it. Those are the only 2 things I can think of from the description, that wouldn't require the ultimate sacrifice.

Yep....stockpiled to the pits of committing framerate suicide. After deforesting several nearby islands to alleviate frustration & avoid scrapping the game, I took another hammer (ie. not a crude one) from one of them back to my home island and......magically I could build again!! Could it seriously have been a borked hammer?!?! I guess in a world with flying sharks, disappearing rafts, land sharks & palm tree transportation......anything is truly possible. Honestly I'm just incredibly happy to be back to building again! :P Thanks for the advice!

I am having the same problem. Their is nothing in the crafting menu except for foundations. I have watched all the youtube videos as well as read all the forums. I have tried placing all the materials right on top of the foundation, beside the foundation etc.. With hammer in hand their is no right click option / left click option and if you hit C on keyboard it brings up crafting menu with only foundations / floors / triangle foundations. NO walls, supports, roofs, window walls etc... nothing. I have tried with metal foundations, driftwood foundations, and wood foundations nothing works.

The walls are accessed by scrolling the top menu right to left using your lmb, or when hovering your mouse wheel over them when you have selected buildings tab in the bottom menu :)

Cosmo, you should make a post explaining how to find the walls, stairs, etc, with the screenshot. and ask Fluxtorrent or Omen to pin it to the top, This way it'll help alot of people :P

If the walls still don't show up in the building menu you'll need to verify the game files in Steam. It's an issue with Steam's patcher, not our end and it has been very annoying!
