Cartoony or Realistic?
This game does seen even more "animated" than before, the graphics are bright and cartoony and seems to have taken a step away from the slightly more realistic previous titles. Would you prefer this, or a Civ game that looks ultra-realistic with gritty looking cities and photo-realistic designs?

The graphic reminds me very much of Age of Empires Online, I don't like it at all.

Hex or grid?
Personally, I like Civ V's style. It's realistic, sure, but not "ultra-realistic". I don't know, for some reason I don't like this cartoonish style. Not that I have anything against the style itself, it's just that, in my opinion, it doesn't fit Civ.

It could look like Civ2 as far as I'm concerned as long as the gameplay is good.

I was thinking the same thing. I have nothing against it, it just looks weird and out of place. Reminds me of AOE Online

It looks like a mobile or tablet game, big dislike!

I don't know, I'm sure the game will be a blast to play as most Civ games have been, but I really would have preferred a stretch to "more realistic" rather than "more cartoony", it's probably to try and get new players into the franchise by appealing to younger gamers etc. instead of just their regulars. Problem is, they then risk alienating their regulars by turning the game into a parody of itself. Here's hoping we can look past the graphics when the game releases.

I totally prefer styalized for strategy games like this.

When you're playing a strategy game you want to be able to see at a glance what the situation is. Styalized graphics helps with this, and honestly I wish they would go back to icons.

Maybe they have designed it this way to be able to play on mobile devices?
Having said that, i dont like the cartoony effect at all. It looks out of place.
Not much of a fan of the cartoony, but i will still play is

I had to do a double-take when I was looking at the screens, because I initially thought I'd missed some 'fine print' somewhere and that this was actually a free-to-play version or something. It reminds me of Godus. /shivers

I love some of the new gameplay concepts they're introducing (military corp!) but the cheezy, cartoony look is not only (IMHO) unappealing, but I think it's going to make the game feel less immersive for me.

I wonder how long it will take for someone to make a graphics overhaul mod...any chance it will be available for launch? :)
With the amount of time I've played Civ 5, I'm a huge fan, but christ, I was hoping for it to look a lot nicer, it's put me off for a pre-order, but not enough has been released on it's gameplay for me to give a definite buy or miss answer

I second that. Don't know but for me it's hard to take this art style "serious" for a semi historical 4x game where you literary can commit genocide and nuke cities. A more grim art style would suit a civilization game much better in my opinion.

I prefered the CIV V look way more than this.
