I was thinking the same thing. I have nothing against it, it just looks weird and out of place. Reminds me of AOE Online
I totally prefer styalized for strategy games like this.
When you're playing a strategy game you want to be able to see at a glance what the situation is. Styalized graphics helps with this, and honestly I wish they would go back to icons.
Having said that, i dont like the cartoony effect at all. It looks out of place.
I had to do a double-take when I was looking at the screens, because I initially thought I'd missed some 'fine print' somewhere and that this was actually a free-to-play version or something. It reminds me of Godus. /shivers
I love some of the new gameplay concepts they're introducing (military corp!) but the cheezy, cartoony look is not only (IMHO) unappealing, but I think it's going to make the game feel less immersive for me.
I wonder how long it will take for someone to make a graphics overhaul mod...any chance it will be available for launch? :)
I second that. Don't know but for me it's hard to take this art style "serious" for a semi historical 4x game where you literary can commit genocide and nuke cities. A more grim art style would suit a civilization game much better in my opinion.
