decent manual
Is there a decent manual available anywhere? Whoever did the one on Steam must own shares in a printer ink company. White on black, shesh... or something worse...

You really print this, right?

Obviously the manuals were not made for home-printing. They were made for real books and added probably only to look things up on screen.

If you would like to invert the colours you can load the PDF with a graphics program - like Gimp for example - and use the invert function before printing. I don't know how many pages you actually want to print or how long it would take for you to convert the 60 pages. Maybe you just want some of them printed?

I think the German version is black on white (with some background though). I don't know if that is any help in this case…

You did not mention what or what for you would like to have self-printed manuals - maybe also the wiki is a solution

I think there are also guides here on Steam…

Or video guides here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p73C60btBi8

I have never even looked at the manual :) I much rather try stuff out, and check for solutions/advice. Which is truly tough in this game, but I got around to it, and is one of those things that makes it interesting for me.. it is not a dumbed down game for the masses outthere... It is one of those few unique games outthere that still challenges you!

And after 1000's of hours playing the entire series, I still found a new thing I didnt know just yesterday in number 11 video, that there is something called 3D view when placing stations.... I was shocked, as I have spent hours redoing station placement because they werent alligned properly... only to find out that there is a great function in game to assist you with precisely that, all it took was a push of a button :O
Thanks for the info on inversion. I tried everything I have and none worked. I'll get Gimp or whatever.

There are three pages of keystrokes, many of which are combos. Life is too short to discover all of them. There are many pages of stats, etc., most of which are tabular; again too short to learn by blundering. Finally I want to play the game, not watch interminable YouTubes ...
Yes, I know what you mean xD
Well, Gimp is for free at least - I bet Photoshop or something similar would help as well. Next to some special PDF-tools (some probably even free). - But I use Linux here - and all I can say is that Gimp works - free and crossplatform.

3 pages should be no problem at least!

You can ping me if you need help with Gimp - I tried it out before posting.
Good luck!

Fair enough :) You go have fun with your printouts hehe

You could also highlight the text in PDF, and do copy & Paste into a document program.
Just tried it in wordpad, and it works after selecting it all again and changing font color to black.
Ofcourse it is not as pretty, but you could probably rearrange it to your liking.
Or perhaps it actually works better if you use Microsoft Word or similar.

Copy / paste works some of the time, but bizarre spacing and horrible CAPitALIzatioN issues popped up when I tried to do it. Doing it this way would require some pretty heavy editing.

I used a combination of PDF XChange Viewer and IrfanView in place of The GIMP, but the result is the same, I imagine. I then re-exported and bound them all up into a single PDF again for ease. It actually took about 30 minutes, but it's tedious work. I think maybe I'll contact Egosoft and see how they'd feel about a negativized version showing up on the internet for people to print. I can't be the only one who likes having paper references next to them with games this deep.
