How does it play?
Like, is it action-y? I know that sounds"stupid" but an idea on how the game is paced would be nice. I'm very interested in this game and might be buying it, but I would like to know how it is first. How open-world is it? Customization? Lay all the details you can on me!

It is tough to explain details, I'd watch a few let's play videos of TC on youtube. You can get a good idea on things that way.

Check out CDRDave's youtube x3 videos for sure. He does a great tutorial series which is a must watch for any X3 player and also does an actual play through where you can watch the game unfold from a specific start.

I'd go for the Humble Merchant start if/when you do decide to get the game and play it.
