can bro wear the miner's hat?

i'm playing with bro, who doesnt use hats, and now i can't use the miner's hat to use in the mines and get the lost husband. is this quest really impossible in the bro mode or is there a button to make him wear it?

Well, you can always go in dark places without the miner's hat, though you'd better know your way really well.
