so far all "game tycoon" games are utter crap.

ration of games getting better everytime even one of the top game judgers of the world (nerd3) loves it the people who made it are so proud the credits are filled with no names
The problem with this, and many other tycoon games out now, is they're suffering a lack of replayability because there's little in the way of diversity in the game. As more and more games are release, there'll be more incentive to work on the long game.
For so long, tycoon games fell out of fashion and those of us who enjoyed them have had to revert to retro gaming to satisfy our craving. Now that it's slowly coming back from the indie market, hopefully we'll see some innovation and some new concepts.
As far as a comparision, there's isn't one. GDT is far superior. However, it suffers the same issue - a lack of long term replayability. Maybe Game Tycoon 2 will address this, maybe GDT will do so, ewith either a sequel or with mods. Either way, this is how innovation starts.
