How do I get FreeSpace to work on a modern computer with window 10? I've tried reading other posts but I can't seem to get it to work. Maybe I am missing an unspoken step in the process. I am not very computer savvy. I just want to play a beloved game from my childhood again....

Just going to get straight to it, I bought the game and had issues running it on a newer Windows 10 gaming laptop. I scoured through the threads here and tried the suggestions on the different ways to get it to play. Had trouble with all of them. I just couldn't get them to work... Until I saw one post that said to change the "network" options in Setup to T1, ADSL, T#, etc... I tried it, but also noticed the options to [ "detect available cards" under the Video section. Title. Have NGlide installed and open. clicl play on steam, then go to setup to change graphics to 3DFX. After doing so press OK. The changes don't actually save, so when I load the game it does the thing where your screen aspect ratio changes and more or less locks you from doing anything. Everything worked fine a few days ago. I played through all of act one. Came back to carry on the playthrough and I can't load the game anymore because of this. Help?...
