Change from F2P to Paid
Hi all,

I'm sure several of you have noticed the game is no longer free-to-play like the original version.

I figured it would be worth while explaining the rationale behind this here.

Originally we wanted to keep the game free-to-play to increase the playerbase and allow more people to try the game out. However the game does, and has always needed, some degree of monetization to pay for ongoing server and development costs. We originally tried to monetize the game by providing "premium/donator" packages that gave the user some cosmetic benefits. We quickly found that the conversion ratio for setups like this is pretty awful unless you have very large playerbases. I think the ratio ended up being about 90,000:15 (0.016%). Needless to say this hasn't really covered the costs of anything.

During the closed-beta we tried out various different methods of monetization, including variations of the premium packages, as well as micro-transactions. None of them really fitted with the game, and some of them felt down right scummy. We discussed this privately with various people, and publicly on our forum with members of the community ( http://www.zombiegrinder.com/forum/index.php?topic=37.msg342#new ). As you can tell we came to the conclusion that the best strategy for both us, as the developers, and for players was to just make the game flat-out paid-for.

I'm sorry for those of you who may feel disappointed. Try the game out though, if you don't feel its worth the price, there's always steam-refund!

The original game will remain running for anyone who wishes to play it for free, but be aware, it's based of an entirely different source-code base which we will not be supporting, and contains none of the upgrades and functionality of the new version. We will be looking into possibly making this version open-source in the future.

It's also worth mentioning that if you've ever spent/donated any amount of money in the original version of the game you can get a free steam-key from our website here:

Cheers,

- Tim

Hey,

You can check out the store page. It varies from country to country (We use valves pricing matrix).

It's roughly $9.

Hi. I got lucky to get a beta key. But now i have also a donator key unused. Is there any difference? Do the Beta version expire?

I doubt anyone with any sense will mind this.

Great games need funding, and we need to keep gaming alive.

I'm with Andii above, I'd much rather pay once than endure fremium or micro-transactions (and the balance for them is a game in it's self).

I'd say do whats fair. Charge a decent price, keep supporting the game and everyone is happy

Now you just need to get yourself in the multipack section, since you're aiming at 4/8 player the 4 pack variation would do well.

Already asked Valve. Apparently they aren't creating them for new games anymore. :S

I'm having trouble getting a steam key, the website says that my account doesn't have a donator version registered (I have the "large donator" version). I sent Infinitus an email about this a few weeks back but haven't got a response yet.

Its a left over from when were were experimenting with other ways to monetise the game. Same with the other DLC appid's.
