So it's possible that having VSync on makes the issue not as frequent, but it doesn't fix it.
One thing I am certain of is that this is a result of something in the most recent update to the game. I had played for about 7 hours total before yesterday without ever encountering this problem.
EDIT: After playing through about 10 different runs, I believe I have identified the problem - It's VSync.
Specifically, if I play the game in Fullscreen mode with VSync off, the camera acts like a crazy lunatic, regardless of any other camera or graphics settings. But if I play with VSync on (or in Window mode), everything appears to be fine. I will keep testing it and post an update if I can narrow it down further, but right now I'm pretty confident this is the cause.
I'm having some pretty severe camera troubles as well since the most recent update. The view will constantly shift while I'm riding - sometimes it'll start at a severe top-down angle so that I can't see anything in front of me, then while I'm riding it will shift down an angle, one step at a time until eventually I'm looking at this: http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/45365881876848364/3E893965C4ADB018CC6FBD4B753C506A9D6C7EDE/
I'm not pressing any buttons that I wasn't pressing before the update - just A and D to move left and right, Space to jump, Left Mouse to attack and Middle Mouse to activate power ups.
Here's another example from another run. I am being very careful about making sure I'm not pressing any errant keys. I know my hand isn't anywhere near the numpad at all. But even so, when I started this run the camera was normal for about 15 - 20 seconds, and then all of a sudden it switched to this angle: http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/45365881876967590/01A5D3CCD0F586118C60CECE741444B852CDEEBD/
I am playing at 1920x1080 fullscreen (my monitor's native resolution)
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1
nVidia GTX 680 (344.48)
core i7 3770K @3.5 GHz
Does it only happen with the default camera or does it also happen with a extra camera?
Does "anti motion sickness" on in the camera options maybe fix it for you?
Are you using a gamepad?
Is the camera back to normal after you died?
That is correct. I played again today for about 45 minutes, and for the first 40 minutes, everything was fine, but for the last 5 minutes the camera was going ballistic.
Once the bug is "activated," all runs immediately start with a message in the upper-left corner of the screen that says "Camera 0 Random Favorites." When that starts happening, the only way to get rid of the bug is to shutdown the game completely and restart.
While the bug was "active" I tried toggling all of the game's camera options on and off to try and get rid of it, but nothing had any effect.
I'm using a keyboard and mouse, but the XBox 360 pad is plugged in and sitting on the desk. I will unplug it before trying again and see if that helps.
No. Restarting a new run results in the camera going haywire immediately.
Then it makes more sense, the "camera O random favorites" is automaticly switching between the cameras that you can also set with number keys (not numpad numbers)
When active it gets then switched to a random camera every few seconds.
My guess is that your d-pad down gets sometimes activated because it get a shake or something. Or you accidentaly get on the mousewheel and make it one down. But you should be still able to change the camera again.
When you press numpad 5 both those inputs will have no effect anymore (also the camera number keys), so it should work then.
Also please check if going with the mousewheel or the dpad one down to "camera O random favorites" matches what you experience as the bug. (numpad 5 not pressed before)
Hopefully that is what is happening. In any case I have to make it more clear with that and possibly bind it to other inputs when it gets switched on accident.
Ok that sounds correct to me. Usually the wheel on my mouse (Logitech G700) is set to "fast scroll" mode where it spins freely instead of one segment at a time. It would make sense if my fingers are brushing up against it while playing Last Knight and causing the camera mode to switch that way.
I will keep playing and if it turns out that there is still a problem I will post here again. Thank you for your help.
Yea, that is still very strange then. I think i have that view set on default on key 9 or 0. Any chance your keyboard has a problem, that that particular key gets constantly activated? To clarify that with locking it, it is not 5 that you have to press. Instead it is the number pad 5, the 5 on the number block on the right of your keyboard.
You could also give it a shot playing with the gamepad and unplugging the keyboard and then see if the bug occurs. Hard to make any guess currently.
However, the camera is still a problem in the same way it was before - I might be able to play for 2 minutes or 20 minutes without any problem, but then the camera will start going crazy. And then if I restart the run after dying, the message "Camera 0 Random Favorites" displays in the top left of the screen (sometimes in a white-colored font, sometimes in red), and no amount of mouse wheel moves does anything to fix it - The only option is to shut down the game completely.
I tried playing exclusively with my 360 gamepad, using only the analog stick for movement and not touching the D-pad at all, but the problem still happened in the same way as when using a mouse.
I also tried validating the cache, which resulted in "all files successfully validated."
So I think I'm back to where I started - Is there anything involving the camera that was changed in the most recent update to the game that would cause this problem? I'll try any other suggestions you have for me.
Some other odd issues I've noticed, that may be related to whatever is causing the camera trouble:
- The options for "Impact Text FX" and "Scores Text FX" will sometimes disable themselves when I restart the game, even though I had them enabled the last time I quit.
- Running over power-ups (e.g. ghost, rainbow bridges) will sometimes activate automatically, instead of waiting for me to press a button to activate them manually.
- My Last Knight save folder (C:\Users\user name\Documents\My Games\Last Knight\Save has 414 files in it, plus a "system" subdirectory with another 27 files in that, and syncing with Steam Cloud takes quite a long time when exiting the game.
I tried deleting the entire save folder. When I attempted to restart the game, Steam Cloud repopulated all 414 files, but not the "system" subfolder. I re-entered all my settings and tried another run, but the camera issues came up again.
It is the holidays now, so personally I would prefer you take some time off and relax instead of working on this. It's not a priority for me and I have other games to play. You've been working plenty hard on this game for a while now.
Yea, will look into it and then upload a beta test build that you can then test. No clue yet why it is happening for you.
You could still try that with the numpad 5 locking the extra cameras. I have also put that on the "end" key now which should be also available with a notebook. So press "end" once and it gets all toggled off with the other cameras. When you do that while playing you will see it on the upper left when you toggle.
With the power ups are you sure that is not just the auto activate when you have found a 2nd and then your first one gets activated? Also, that new x-mas mode I added has the power ups you find in the presents on auto activate because there you throw your snowballs with the power ups button. The rogue rider adventure mode has them always activate on the start of the area.
Yea, that with the cloud saving is a bit annoying but that is because of how Steam handles the many files uploading. Nothing I can do really about that. The system folder is not cloud saved because when you then sync on a different PC you don't want to have the other PCs system settings taking over. If you don't need cloud saving you can also turn it off in the settings of the game in Steam.
I will then also look into what is going on with the TextFX settings.
That appears to work, as far as my camera troubles are concerned. I haven't had any issues with it since using this to lock the camera in place.
Ah, yes you are correct. I thought it was a bug but it's likely just picking up a power-up causing the one already available to auto-activate
Ok, I'm not really worried about it then. I thought it might mean there was a problem specific to my installation of the game, but it sounds like that's how it's supposed to be.
